On December 4-5, 2025, RICA hosted 58 Conservation Agriculture (CA) Model Farmers from the Gatore Sector in @KireheDistrict, as well as the Gashora and Rweru Sectors in @BugeseraDistr.
These farmers, having practiced CA for over a year, benefited from this learning visit which enhanced their knowledge of CA practices and their effective implementation.
After the workshop, farmers set goals for improving CA adoption over the next planting cycles and committed to mobilizing their neighbors to adopt CA techniques.

RICA's CA extension team trained Gashora farmers on conservation agriculture (CA) principles and best agronomical practices. This included land preparation, optimal planting density, and crop residue management, in preparation for Season B planting. Following a successful first maize harvest under CA practices, additional training covered crop rotation with soybeans and beans.

Today at RICA, we had the honor of hosting Dr. Herbert Diess, former Chairman of the Board of Management at Volkswagen Group and Volkswagen Passenger Cars. Dr. Diess expressed keen interest in the performance of the Mk1 e-tractor in Rwanda. He was accompanied by @kamuhinda, CEO of @VWRwanda, along with teams from VW South Africa and Germany. Exciting discussions on sustainable farming and innovations!

Keynotes to Sustain Drip Irrigation System.
-Avoid putting more pressure on system to avoid leakages.
-It is better to cover the field with mulch.
-It is critical to have a regular plan for flashing the system.
-It is recommended to irrigate early in the morning and/or evening.

In hot regions, mulching is recommended to avoid more water lost through evaporation.

For #highvaluecrop to deliver better yield and profit; a farmer needs to consider various agriculture practices like efficient irrigation system like drip irrigation, #IPM, and permanent soil cover by #mulching or cover crops to reduce casual labor, weeds, and money.

Dear farmers, remember to do daily #cropscouting because it helps in monitoring pests, diseases, and weeds. Also, allows you to take appropriate actions to improve crop health for better yield.

#Dripirrigation system has potential to save water and nutrients by enabling water to drip slowly through #emitters in the plant root zone. It is better for high value crops like chilli, tomato, and others.
