I am looking for a postdoc in my research group to work on magnetic field evolution in neutron stars. The deadline is 18th March. https://t.co/ml3I9vAc4n
Stellar material falling back following SN explosions plays a key role in forming the magnetic fields of some magnetars. X-ray bursts result from their complex fields, produced by a Tayler-Spruit dynamo. @ignotur et al.: https://t.co/8anPKSFPkX @UniofNewcastle@UniversityLeeds
Our new configuration describes observational properties of low-field magnetars because we it explains periods, structure of the field, thermal properties as well as it identifies places where the crust yields producing outburst of X-ray emission.
Magnetars have the strongest magnetic field in the Universe. But how are these fields formed? We try to answer exactly this question in our recent paper published in @NatureAstronomy

@mmosc_m @joonas_nattila They are very similar at the mathematical equation level as well. The book “introduction to magnetohydrodynamics” by Davidson has a whole chapter about it.
Nature is so ironic. I’m rereading the old paper about magnetar theory where Thompson & Duncan (1995) contrast and compare two first soft gamma repeaters SGR 1806-20 and SGR 0526-66. At that time it was no precise measurements for spin period of 1806-20 so they discuss how this
Magnetar could have reduced dipole field. In particular, they say “that only 0526-66 has been observed to emit a burst as energetic as the March 5 event”.
The irony is that ten years later 1806-20 emitted a giant flare. These flares are extremely rare.
