कधी कधी वाटतं…
ICU मध्ये रोज जे पाहतो ते लिहायला बसलो,
तर timeline फक्त stories ने भरून जाईल.

आज सकाळचे ICU rounds सुरू झाले…
आणि पहिल्याच patient ने दिवसाचा tone set केला.

23 वर्षांची मुलगी.
अविवाहित.
घरात खूप वाद.
थोड्या complaints.

History clear नव्हती.

USG केलं…
12 आठवड्यांची pregnancy.

क्षणात समजलं
आज फक्त medical management नाही…
तर emotions, silence, family drama आणि reality
सगळं एकत्र हाताळावं ला���णार आहे.

पुढच्या bed कडे वळलो.

20 वर्षांची नवविवाहित मुलगी.
Phenyl consumption.
एक पूर्ण bottle.

क्षणभर मनात विचित्र विचार आला…

दिवसभर patients ना
“पाणी जास्त प्या” सांगूनही
लोक पुरेसं पाणी पीत नाहीत…

आणि ही मुलगी
एक bottle phenyl
जणू cold drink सारखी पिऊ शकते.

माणूस जेव्हा emotionally collapse होतो…
तेव्हा poison ची चव लागत नाही बहुतेक.

पुढचा bed.

35 वर्षांची महिला.
दोन मुलांची आई.
Rat killing poison.

बाजूला husband-wife मध्ये ताण,
divorce वरून वाद.

Husband insist करत होता.
ती deny करत होती.

मी तिला शांतपणे विचारलं

“खरंच suicide होतं…
की फक्त घाबरवायचं होतं?”

ती म्हणाली
“नाही doctor, मला खरंच मरायचं आहे.”

मी पुन्हा विचारलं

“एका बाजूला तुम्ही म्हणता divorce देणार च न��ही…
आणि दुसऱ्या बाजूला म्हणता मला मरायचं आहे…”

क्षणभर ती शांत झाली.

कदाचित
पहिल्यांदाच स्वतःचं वाक्य
स्वतःलाच ऐकू गेलं असेल.

तोपर्यंत माझ्या assistant’s ना पण

Impulsive decision…
पण किंमत आयुष्यभराची लागू शकते.

अजून बरेच patients चा round बाकी आहे

कधी कधी वाटतं
समाजात शरीरापेक्षा मनं जास्त थकत चालली आहेत.

BP, sugar, infection साठी guidelines आहेत…
पण तुटलेल्या नात्यांसाठी,
एकटेपणासाठी,
emotionally exhausted मनासाठी
कोणतं protocol नसतं.

आणि खरं सांगायचं तर…
coping सगळ्यांना जमत नाही.

पुढच्या दशकात
ICU मध्ये फक्त आजार वाढणार नाहीत…
तर emotional collapse पण वाढताना दिसेल असं वाटतं.

कारण काही माणसं मरायचा प्रयत्न करत नाहीत…
ती फक्त आतून जगणं थांबलेलं असतं.
