독서는 결국 반드시 마주해야 하는 일이다.

얼마 전, 내가 출연한 드라마 《太平年》이 방송되었다.
전홍숙(钱弘俶) 이라는 인물을 연기하면서
나는 ‘읽기’라는 행위에 대해 더 많은 깨달음을 얻게 되었다.
좋은 배우가 되기 위해서
독서는 피할 수 없는 과정이다.
처음으로 대본을 처음부터 끝까지 읽었을 때
나는 그 안에 담긴 역사 이야기에 깊이 끌렸다.
그때 나는 많은 사람들과 마찬가지로
오대십국이라는 이 ‘비주류’ 역사에 대해 교과서에서 짧게 접한 정도에 불과했다.
그래서 마음속에 약간의 불안이 있었다.

대부분의 사람들이 쉽게 접하지 않는 역사 속에서
이렇게 멀고 낯선 한 인간에게 어떻게 다가갈 수 있을까?

답은 역시 ‘읽기’였다.
대본을 반복해서 읽으며 이야기의 흐름을 파악하고, 관련 서적을 찾아보며 역사 속 깊이 들어갔다.
그렇게 글을 따라가며, 머릿속에서 한 번 전홍숙의 인생을 살아보는 것이다.
