Amazing milestone for @ERC_Research, we at #ihear are proud to be one of the #ERC10kGrantees!
With this funding we've been able to significantly progress research into psychotic experiences
Below is an infographic of the work done by ihear & for more see https://t.co/II7ATiYr04
Today we celebrate not only the 10,000th grantee, but also all scientists and scholars funded by the ERC over the years. 🎉 We are so proud of their contributions to research!
As we can't describe them all today, don't hesitate to share your own #ERC10kGrantees success story!
Examining the association between prenatal and perinatal adversity and the psychotic experiences in childhood | Psychological Medicine | Cambridge Core - https://t.co/IWdSdU5X34
Maternal behaviour and health during pregnancy can have adverse effects in the mental health of the children + an area that needs additional support
e.g. affordable healthcare in places like the USA (where #ABCD study was collected).
With thanks to @RCSI_Irl@ERC_Research
4. Compared to controls
Persistent PE 31% more likely in children whose mothers smoked, 48% more likely in those who used drugs & 8% more in those with more prenatal complications
Transient PE was 32% more likely in child whose mothers who smoked & 8% more for cumulative risk
3. Cumulative number of prenatal adversities were associated with an increased frequency of distressing PE in childhood.
However, as with maternal smoking, this effect decreased as the child entered adolescence, suggesting specific risk factors for childhood PE
Key finding
1. New prenatal risk factors - Severe maternal anaemia & UTI
2. Maternal smoking increased frequency of PEs, but the significance of this effect decreased as the child entered adolescence
Prenatal and perinatal adversities have been frequently linked to subsequent #psychosis, less has been examined in psychotic experiences (PE)
We set out using 11,872 participants from the #ABCD study to examine 4 key questions in relation to distressing childhood PE

That's a wrap on #PSISTAR2023 annual meeting!
Thanks to all those who presented, attended and participated in the cooperative day of learning from each other about the topic of #psychosis
Particular thanks to @Brokentalkers for co-hosting, and hope to see many more next year!
Final speaker of the day at #PSISTAR2023
Prof Dan Fisher, the developer of emotional CPR, a compassion based intervention for psychosis.
Prof Fisher kept with the open and honest discussion of the day, sharing his own lived experience, and what motivated him to develop eCPR
@Brokentalkers Up next the PSI-STAR PhDs held a panel about their interest in the field of psychosis, the challenges of starting a PhD, and what they hope to accomplish in the next year
Excellent discussion, and with many exciting projects coming up this year!
#PSISTAR2023
The morning was hosted by @Brokentalkers
All attendees worked individually and then as a group on the topic of "change and psychosis"
Passionate discussion about lived experience, clinical services, and the need to reduce the public stigma about psychosis
#PSISTAR2023
the #PSISTAR2023 annual meeting is happening today, working with our collaborators @Brokentalkers
The conference brings together the whole PSI-STAR network including the PhDs, PPI, researchers and policy and public groups.
