Shipped my first browser game: Knightrush β
Idea: what if a chess knight was an endless runner? You only move in L-shapes, and enemy pieces come at you.
To keep people coming back I added:
π a weekly leaderboard that resets every Monday
π― 3 daily quests
π a daily gift
Next: figure out which of those actually brings players back.
Game devs, what retention mechanic worked best for you?

Indie dev confession: I can't draw.
I'm building a timer app where the whole point is the animation, and that's the one thing I'm worst at.
How do solo devs without art skills get great visuals? Commission? AI? Rive templates? Teach me.
@tibo_maker Does this work for iOS apps too, or mostly SaaS? Curious if ChatGPT pulls from "best X apps" listicles the same way, or leans on App Store pages
@jaimintf The "open to examine" interaction is so good. A fold you have to physically open makes it feel like opening a book. Would love to see this as an iPad app before the hardware even exists
@devmelv "Distribution beats product" is the one I keep relearning. Did you plan a TikTok account per app from day one, or only after an app showed traction?
@adriamatz How did you handle moderation early on? That's the part that's kept me from adding one. Love the "learn by reading your users" angle though, cheaper than any survey
@stat_biz The pattern seems to be pairing a habit people *want* with a moment they can't skip. Waking up and unlocking your phone are both unavoidable, so the push-up rides along. Curious if anyone's tried this with focus timers π
@frederickjames Asking for a review right after a good support chat is smart timing. Does it work for apps with no backend, or do I need my own server?
@FiachraRM The tear sound is what sells it. Is the page tear a Metal shader on the whole view, or do you render the page to a texture first? SwiftUI + shaders is so underused.
@Nick_5anchez@nnnnicholas The paywall timing is the part that sticks with me. Most of us add it to onboarding on day one out of panic. Did data decide day 103, or was it gut feel?
