This Memorial Day, HHS honors the brave service members who gave their lives in defense of our nation and remembers the families who carry their legacy forward.
This budget is about delivering on a fundamental commitment by ensuring that American Indian and Alaska Native communities have access to reliable, high-quality health care.
We also highlight the importance of advance appropriations, which protect our patients from the harmful impacts of potential lapses in appropriations. The budget requests $5.6 billion in advance appropriations for FY 2028 to ensure stable and predictable funding moving forward.
@SecKennedy has committed to a multi-year $1 billion investment to complete these projects, which have been on the priority list since 1993.
Modern facilities are critical to delivering safe, high-quality care.
The IHS continues to address long-standing infrastructure needs. The President’s FY 2027 Budget includes an additional $5 million for health care facilities construction. While 36 of 42 priority list projects are complete or underway, six remain.
That progress matters. The FY 2027 budget builds on that foundation, advances our mission, and fulfills the federal trust responsibility by supporting a system of over 600 facilities and 41 urban Indian organizations serving nearly 3 million American Indians and Alaska Natives.
Chief of Staff Clayton Fulton testified before the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs to discuss the President’s Fiscal Year 2027 Budget Request for the IHS. Over the past decade, investments have helped grow the IHS budget by 60%, strengthening health care across Indian Country.
