Saint Maria Goretti, the martyr who promised Paradise to her killer
St. Maria Goretti, a young virgin and martyr, is celebrated on July 6 for her commitment to purity and forgiveness. Born in 1890 in Italy, Maria cared for her siblings while her mother worked and was known for her piety and obedience. At the age of 11, she resisted the advances of Alessandro Serenelli, who attempted to rape her. Despite being fatally stabbed, Maria forgave Alessandro before her death. He later repented and sought forgiveness. Maria was canonized in 1950 and is a patron saint of purity. Her life serves as an example of courage, sacrifice, and the importance of chastity.
