An average prisoner in Nigeria today is a victim of the state. Basically, a powerful individual gets a senior police officer to arrest and charge a Nigerian citizen to court. The judge is briefed in advance, bail is refused, and the person is remanded in prison.

When bail is eventually granted, it often comes with conditions that cannot be fulfilled, forcing the accused back to prison until another victim is shipped in.

Meanwhile, the real criminals are the ones filling the prisons with innocent countrymen and women. Nigeria must experience a REVOLUTION to end impunity.

WEEKEND MUSINGS

THE EGYPTIANS WE SEE TODAY SHALL BE SEEN NO MORE: AN IGBO REFLECTION ON TRUTH, CONSCIENCE, AND THE IMPERATIVE OF PRESERVING OUR ANCESTRAL DECENCY

There is an enduring biblical declaration recorded in Exodus 14:13: “The Egyptians whom ye see today, ye shall see them again no more forever.” Beyond its religious significance, it symbolizes the inevitable triumph of truth over oppression, light over darkness, and righteousness over deception.

Our revered Igbo forebears understood this timeless principle long before the advent of modern institutions. Their philosophy of justice was deeply rooted in the sanctity of Ala—the Earth Deity, the custodian of morality, truth, justice, and communal harmony. They believed that no matter how cleverly evil was concealed, the desecration of the land would ultimately provoke divine justice. Hence, the timeless Igbo wisdom: “Ala anaghị eri onye aka ya dị ọcha,” meaning that the Earth does not consume the innocent.

My late father, who was privileged to live to the remarkable age of ninety-eight, often recounted how our ancestors approached moments of grave communal crisis. Whenever unprecedented wickedness, bloodshed, sacrilege, or moral decay threatened the peace of the land, the custodians of tradition consulted the deities—not to promote vengeance, but to restore truth, expose falsehood, cleanse the land, and preserve the collective destiny of the people. Today, however, the advent of Christianity and our belief in the invincible power of Christ have transformed this system.

It was firmly believed that those who secretly conspired to pollute the land with innocent blood, deceit, betrayal, or sacrilegious acts would, in due course, become instruments of their own exposure. Whether through confession, contradiction, indiscretion, or the inexorable workings of providence, hidden conspiracies would ultimately come to light. In Igbo cosmology, truth may be delayed, but it is never permanently buried. Indeed, it is unfolding right before our eyes today.

Today, these ancient lessons resonate with profound relevance.

For years, many voices consistently raised concerns that criminal elements had infiltrated a noble cause, with profound collusion from within, disguising themselves as freedom advocates while perpetrating heinous crimes against the very people they professed to defend. At the time, such concerns were dismissed by some as unfounded, while others chose the comfort of denial over the discomfort of truth.

Yet, unfolding events continue to compel sober reflection. Increasingly, disturbing realities suggest that those responsible for many atrocities committed across parts of Alaigbo were not necessarily motivated by the lofty ideals of self-determination, but by ulterior motives, criminality, personal ambition, profiteering, and infiltration.

History teaches that no nation has ever been rebuilt through indiscriminate violence against its own people. No civilization has flourished by burning the homes of its brethren, abducting innocent citizens, murdering traditional rulers, attacking public institutions, intimidating the clergy, silencing dissenting voices, or making fear the currency of daily existence.

The Igbo nation has never celebrated bloodshed against its own people.

Our civilization was founded upon communal responsibility, industry, enterprise, respect for life, justice, hard work, and the sanctity of family and community. We are a people renowned for rebuilding after devastation, not for institutionalizing destruction.

Sadly, one of the greatest tragedies confronting Alaigbo today is the painful realization that some of those orchestrating this reign of terror are neither strangers nor distant adversaries. They have lived among us, eaten at our tables, spoken our language, enjoyed our confidence, and exploited the trust of our people while secretly advancing agendas that have brought untold suffering upon our communities.

Perhaps even more disturbing is the growing realization that deception has often worn the garments of patriotism, while betrayal has disguised itself as courage. Yet truth possesses an enduring quality: it neither expires nor surrenders. In the fullness of time, it unveils itself.

As another profound Igbo proverb reminds us:
“Eziokwu bụ ndụ; ụgha bụ ọnwụ.”
Truth is life; falsehood ultimately leads to destruction.

Another equally instructive proverb declares:
“Ihe e ji ekpuchi anwụ anaghị ekpuchi ya ruo mgbede.” Nothing can permanently cover the sun.

The unfolding realities before us should, therefore, provoke not bitterness but wisdom; not vengeance but discernment; not despair but a renewed commitment to justice and peace.

This is the defining moment for Ndi Igbo.

A people cannot liberate themselves by first enslaving their own communities to fear. A nation cannot emerge from the ashes of its own villages. Our future cannot be secured through perpetual mourning.

The preservation of Alaigbo requires courage—not merely the courage to confront external challenges, but the even greater courage to reject the internal forces that seek to destroy us from within.

May Ala continue to vindicate the innocent. May truth continue to expose falsehood.

May justice triumph over deception.

And may Almighty God, who sees beyond appearances and searches every heart, continue to preserve Alaigbo and restore lasting peace to our beloved homeland.

"Our Homes Are Disappearing Before Our Eyes." 😢💔😭

Communities in Uzuakoli, Bende LGA, Raise Fresh Alarm as Devastating Gully Erosion Destroys Homes, Farmlands, Roads and Burial Grounds; Residents Appeal for Urgent Federal and Abia State Government Intervention

A deep humanitarian and environmental crisis is unfolding in Uzuakoli Ancient Kingdom, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, as communities continue to witness the relentless advance of devastating gully erosion that is swallowing homes, farmlands, roads, economic trees, and even ancestral burial grounds.

With every rainfall, the gully expands at an alarming rate, forcing families to live in fear as buildings develop dangerous cracks and valuable agricultural lands disappear. Residents say generations of hard work and cherished heritage are being washed away before their very eyes.

The affected communities are making an urgent appeal to the Abia State Government, relevant environmental agencies, humanitarian organizations, and development partners to immediately intervene before the disaster claims more lives and properties.

Community leaders warn that if urgent erosion-control measures are not implemented, many families could be displaced, livelihoods destroyed, and entire communities cut off from essential roads and infrastructure.

The renewed cry for help comes amid growing concerns over the severity of erosion in parts of Uzuakoli, with recent official assessments acknowledging the scale of destruction and the need for emergency intervention.

The people of Uzuakoli are united in one desperate plea:

"Save Our Communities. Save Our Homes. Save Our Future. The Time to Act Is Now."

There MUST be a coroner's inquest into the death of Mary Habila at the residence of Tinubu's Minister of Works, David Umahi

Given the mysterious manner of her death and unanswered questions about the circumstances of her presence at the Minister's home, it is in the interest of justice that all appropriate investigative and forensic procedures, including, where required by law, an autopsy and any other relevant inquiries, be completed before Mary Habila is buried.

Any attempt at hurried burial by her family must be resisted. Ms. Mary Habila died with blood flowing from her mouth, which suggests that her death is unnatural.
There have been several allegations of mysterious deaths surrounding Umahi, including those of 5 NELAN Engineers that remain unsolved to date.
