This morning, I looked at my daughter as she got ready for school. She’s only a year younger than I was at the time it happened. I hope that she never has to experience it, but can still understand why we mourn. Why we hang a flag out front as we’ve done every day since.
It was at this exact moment 25 years ago, walking into my 4th period history class, that I learned of the attack. Our normally bubbly teacher walked in late, quietly, told us what had happened and that she would turn on the news briefly just to see what happened.
The pastors from various churches in our town organized a prayer service that evening at the town square. I remember the early fall chill in the air and the anxiety of not knowing what that day meant or what might come next.
@tuuu28283 There isn’t a formal ceremony we have locally that I know of, but our local fire station has a memorial plaza with a set of beams that came from just above the first impact site. They have plaques explaining the event, beams, and the volunteers from our fire department.
