Founding Partner of Marathon Management Holdings @gokulr, who sits on the board for $COIN, $PINS, and $TTD, tells us why all software is vulnerable if companies fail to innovate, but it depends on the time horizon:

@gokulr believes that: "All software is vulnerable if companies fail to innovate, the difference is more in terms of time horizons".
He categorises software into two types of companies:
1. Utility is tied to the outcome
2. Utility is tied to the data (systems of record)
"Overall, systems of record [@salesforce] have a longer time horizon while things that are purely based on outcomes [@Zendesk]...those are going to be the ones that are going to have to face a nearer-term reckoning"
It erodes trust, pace, and standards—for them and the team.
Real leadership is creating permission for:

• Role redesign without stigma

Holding people in roles they can’t sustainably scale isn’t kindness.
@eric_seufert Adtech is not growing for them but not declining as well in terms of absolute value - with UAC they did a good job of moving dollars from mobile app advertisers - do you feel it’s function of tech not seeing investment in newer areas like Commerce Media or CTV/OTT ecosystem ?
@eric_seufert Paid links are coming for sure - though what will be exciting to see is where we move towards lesser options and finite decisions , while search and affiliate budgets will get unbundled and move towards AI assistants - how will full funnel advertising looks like or doesn’t 🤔
