Miles Davis with Quincy Jones & Orchestra, live at Montreux, 1991.
A rare moment of reflection from an artist who rarely looked back. Just months before his passing, Miles returned to honor Gil Evans and the music they created together.
On this day in 1997, @RayCharles_TM took the Montreux Jazz Festival stage for a brilliant performance backed by his orchestra and The Raelettes. From "Georgia on My Mind" to "What'd I Say," every song was delivered with the passion that made him unforgettable.
Richard Gere: “Trump uses the same words that Hitler did. Calls them vermin. They’re not vermin. These are human beings. I’ve met them. He’s never met a refugee or a migrant. These are human beings like us who are usually running from a fire of one kind or another”

Team brilliance won over dazzling individualism to secure the World Cup for Spain. Functioning, wholesome multiculturalism also got a share of the glory. Football overcame, only just, the rabid commodification and the corporate shenanigans that almost killed its spirit. Food for thought about all the other realms of human endeavour. https://t.co/jkANOr2VRf

The Odyssey is cinema on a majestic scale only a few living directors can pull off, and Nolan once again proves he is one of them. It is a testament to the power of old school filmmaking with the participation of thousands of people. There are countless shots that take your breath away and multiple stunningly orchestrated, massive set pieces. Any skepticism about the marquee names in the cast disappears once they are on the screen. Damon and Hathaway turn in assured performances. From the uniformly excellent supporting cast, Samantha Morton, Himesh Patel, and John Leguizamo stood out for me. If you have a true IMAX near you with available seats, that is obviously the way to go. However I would not obsess about it. Just see it on the biggest screen you can find. I will watch it at a Dolby Cinema next.

"My Left Foot" and "Home Alone 2" star Brenda Fricker has died at 81 years old.
Fricker became the first Irish actress to win an Oscar when she took home the supporting prize for "My Left Foot." She is perhaps best remembered by general audiences as the Pigeon Lady from “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.”
Fricker’s agent, Phil Belfield, confirmed her death to the BBC on Friday: “We will never see her like again and the world is lesser for the lack of her,” he said in a statement. “I was honored to know, love and work with her and she will always have a place in my heart and in the heart of so many film and TV fans the world over.”
