This is exactly why people love the World Cup—underdogs proving they belong on the biggest stage.
Whatever the final result, Cape Verde have already earned plenty of respect with this performance.
It really has been an incredible match!
For a nation making its first-ever FIFA World Cup appearance, Cape Verde taking defending champions Argentina national football team to extra time is a remarkable achievement. Cape Verde have defended brilliantly, with goalkeeper Vozinha
I was honored to give an invocation at our nation’s 60th presidential inauguration ceremony before President @realDonaldTrump and Vice President @JDVance were sworn in today. I urged those in attendance to stand still and remember the great things that God has done for this country and to keep our eyes fixed on Him. Will you join me in praying for President Trump and our leaders?

THE WHISTLER CONFIRMS THE RELEASE OF JOURNALIST KASARAHCHI ANIAGOLU, AND DEMANDS AN APOLOGY FROM THE NIGERIAN POLICE
THE WHISTLER NEWSPAPERS is pleased to announce the release of our journalist, Kasarahchi Aniagolu, who was unlawfully arrested and detained by officers of the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja on February 21, 2024.
Ms. Aniagolu was unjustly arrested while documenting a raid on Bureau de Change (BDC) operators in Abuja and endured unwarranted assault and intimidation during her detention.
Thanks to the collective efforts of media outlets, human rights organizations, and concerned individuals who amplified the injustice of her arrest, Ms. Aniagolu was released on Wednesday night after approximately 8 hours of illegal detention at the Anti-Violence Crime Unit of the Nigerian Police Force in Guzape, Abuja.
While we acknowledge Ms. Aniagolu's freedom as a positive development, THE WHISTLER remains deeply troubled by the circumstances leading to her arrest and detention while doing her job as a journalist.
We reiterate our call for a thorough investigation into the incident, encompassing the arrest, detention, harassment, excessive use of force and the confiscation of Ms. Aniagolu's equipment.
Furthermore, we demand an unreserved public apology from the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force for this egregious violation of press freedom and the fundamental human rights of Ms. Aniagolu.
We call on The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, to ensure that those responsible are held accountable and to implement measures preventing similar transgressions against journalists performing their lawful duties.
A robust and free press is indispensable for the sustenance of democracy, and any encroachment on the rights of journalists constitutes an assault on the public's right to access information.

PRESS RELEASE:
THE WHISTLER CONDEMNS THE ASSAULT AND UNLAWFUL DETENTION OF OUR REPORTER KASARACHI ANIAGOLU
THE WHISTLER Newspapers strongly condemn in strongest terms, the unlawful arrest, assault, and ongoing detention of our reporter, Kasarahchi ANIAGOLU, by officers of the Nigeria Police Force operating within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Ms. Aniagolu was performing her journalistic duties while filming a raid on Bureau de Change (BDC) operators in Wuse Zone 4 on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, when she was forcefully arrested.
Despite clearly identifying herself as a journalist, she was manhandled and threatened, and her equipment was confiscated. She is currently being held at the Anti-Violence Crime Unit (former SARS office) in Guzape.
We are deeply disturbed by the complete disregard for press freedom by the Nigeria Police Force and the blatant violation of Ms. Aniagolu's fundamental rights. The physical assault and threats to her life are utterly unacceptable and a direct attack on independent journalism.
Furthermore, the conflicting statements regarding the operation from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) headquarters and the FCT Police Command raise serious concerns about accountability and transparency.
The respective authorities’ blatant denial of the operation further highlights the need for a thorough investigation into this undemocratic incident.
THE WHISTLER demands the immediate and unconditional release of Ms. Anaigolu and an unreserved apology from the Leadership of The Nigeria Police Force.
We call for a swift and transparent investigation into her unlawful arrest, assault, and detention. Those responsible for these actions must also be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.
We urge all relevant authorities to uphold the fundamental rights of journalists and ensure their safety and freedom to report without fear or intimidation.
Signed:
