Receiving information from @VOCALAfrica_ Mombasa office @SkettyWalid that Mwabili Mwagodi is presently being held at Port Police Station in Mombasa after being taken there from Lunga Lunga where he was arrested yesterday.

Mwabili was on his way to Tanzania to clear with his former employer and get his dues when he was intercepted at the border and detained. He is currently awaiting transportation to Nairobi. The police have not given the reason for his arrest only citing “orders from above”!

Police in Tanzania have imposed a curfew following a tense polling day marked by protests and unrest in several parts of the country. Internet services have also been shut down, while several people have been injured during protests.

Amnesty International Kenya is deeply concerned by the reported abduction and disappearance of Kenyan human rights defender Mwabili Mwagodi, last seen in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on Wednesday, 23 July 2025.

This disturbing incident echoes a growing pattern of cross-border repression targeting East African activists, including the recent abductions of Boniface Mwangi and Agather Atuhaire, now before the East African Court of Justice.

Family has confirmed that Mwabili Mwagodi, who is a Kenyan activist and was vocal against church donations, was abducted in Tanzania on Wednesday.
