This video shows Albanian children who found shelter in the “Gryka e Shpëtimit” in Krojmir after being forcibly expelled from their homes during the war in Kosovo. Even under those circumstances, they did not sing of hatred. They sang of their dream of a free Kosovo.

“They shot at us with tanks… they burned our house…”

With these words, this elderly woman recounted her forced displacement from her home and the suffering she endured during the war in Kosovo.

Only 11 years old, Nazlije Selim Selimi from Shalë, Lipjan, became a witness to the horrors of the Little Hallaq Massacre. In this authentic testimony, recorded just days after the crime, she recalls the moment Serbian forces killed her father and dozens of other villagers.

The Executive Director of the Institute for the Documentation of War Crimes in Kosovo, Mr. Atdhe Hetemi, received the Ambassador of the Republic of Albania to the Republic of Kosovo, Prof. Petrit Malaj, accompanied by Minister Counsellor Ms. Pranvera Teli Dibra.

During the meeting, the participants discussed the Institute’s activities to date, the projects currently under implementation, and the importance of institutional cooperation in fulfilling IKKL’s mandate.

At the ICCW, we document facts and evidence with the conviction that they are the foundation for justice, acknowledgment of crimes, and an institutional apology, because confronting the past remains a prerequisite for building trust and sustainable peace in the region.

ICCW thanks all participants for their valuable contributions and professional comments. The process will continue in cooperation with institutions, experts and victims’ families to further expand and update the database in line with its legal mandate and professional standards.

Today, ICCW presented the initial version of the preliminary list of victims of the last war in Kosovo, in the presence of Prime Minister Albin Kurti and representatives of state institutions, academia, the justice system, experts, and civil society organizations.

The meeting presented the methodology, sources, and progress in documenting war victims, while supporting the further verification of data toward an accurate and reliable state record of war victims in Kosovo (1998–1999).

ICCW believes that effective documentation and memorialization require close cooperation among institutions, civil society, the media, academia, and partners to build a fact-based collective memory that serves truth, justice, and future generations.

The Executive Director of ICCW participated in a panel on memorialization organized by YIHR with the support of the British Council. Dr. Hetemi stressed that memorialization begins with accurate documentation, evidence preservation, and fact verification.

The exhibition “Poisonings in Kosovo 1990–1992” was also opened to the public, presenting documents, photographs, medical records, testimonies, and archival materials that shed light on the mass poisonings of Albanian students and civilians during the early 1990s.

As part of the commemoration of the 27th anniversary of Kosovo’s Liberation, the ICCW presented part of its work in Paris at an event organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Kosovo in France.

ICCW had the pleasure of welcoming, for the second time, professors and students from the Bachelor’s and Master’s programs of the University of South Carolina.

The students and professors expressed particular interest in the work of the institute and were also given the opportunity to closely explore the ICCW archive, which contains documents, testimonies, and materials of special importance for collective memory.
