Tribute to heroic refugee Faraz Ahmad Tahir
'He did not leave Pakistan for fear of death – but only to gain freedom of religion.'
In His Friday Sermon, His Holiness Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad paid tribute to Ahmadi Muslim refugee Faraz Tahir, who moved from Pakistan to Australia seeking religious freedom.
While on duty as a security guard at a mall in Sydney, he confronted a knifeman who was on a rampage and was stabbed and martyred, saving many lives in the process.
The prime minister of Australia Anthony Albanese lauded his bravery and attended his funeral, while more than 120 news reports covered the incident.
He is being honoured as a "national hero" in Australia.
It's clear from his sacrifice that he did not leave Pakistan fearing for his life, but left due to the persecution against Ahmadi Muslims and constraints on religious freedoms, His Holiness said.
His brothers say Faraz Tahir was hardworking, softhearted and loved his siblings very much. He was regular in his prayers.
Many other tributes have poured in testifying to his character and personality.
