finally finished revising this essay on the politics of genital mutilation, attempting to position genital autonomy as a left issue & examining the subject thru lenses of gender, empire, religion, medicine, & family. if such things interest you: https://t.co/Crq5AfQPYZ
My most out there spiritual belief is that only in a truly secular world will humanity be able to actually, freely, know, exprience, choose if the supernatural is real or not.
This is why the individualistic, eugenics approach must be supplanted by an emphasis on communalisation of care. Accomodation culture has to be built from below in collective effort.
I challenge fellow transfeminists to speak out about how trans girls are not legally protected from genital mutilation in any country. Trans girls are excluded from protections extended to non-trans girls, and those protections are inadequate to begin with.
Ok but it's the same person doing the paper cuts (more like chopping a finger off actually) and stabbing others (not always! e.g. pricking in Indonesia) in the chest because society sees missing fingers / stab wounds as desirable and necessary gender markers.
@DiscipleOfRho@like_a_taxi@bxkigx2 i share this frustration and on the flipside it’s a frustration i have w a lot of intactivists too (like the transphobic/misogynistic ones). both of u r honestly breaths of fresh air on here bc it’s so rare to see ppl holding these issues together the right way
it’s hard for me to get into celebratory pride spirit when so many cis gays seem completely apathetic to the onslaught of crackdowns on trans ppl and access to transition
all this to say. i feel a heaviness and grief that is clouding my ability to feel celebratory. today my friend asked me why i don’t feel “prideful” this month and it’s just like. well because of all the murders and bc so much of pride is commodified assimilationist hollowness
@bxkigx2 Neither FGM nor MGM are categorically worse than each other, and the division of genital mutilation survivors based on gender is oppressive to all people who have experienced genital mutilation because it facilitates our disenfranchisement in our respective cultures.
The world bourgeoisie will co-opt progressive principles to justify atrocities. This does not make those principles reactionary, you must uphold them while attacking its bourgeois bastardization, if you condemn them altogether you have let imperialism control the narrative.
A very bad force bringing progressive movements down globally is the intellectual force of 'monitoring' and 'waiting for better conditions' - it's this very harmful idea of 'observing without acting', as opposed to the act of preparing for opportunities that surprise us.
i think people make a logical leap and conflate all critique as having the same goal when the right want to undermine and the left wants to build something better, but you SHOULD be critical of healthcare because it’s currently NOT structured to actually help us
