🇦🇲🇦🇿 Aliyev in 2018: "Yerevan is our historical land, and we, Azerbaijanis, must return to these lands. This is our political and strategic goal, and we must gradually move toward it. Our historical lands are the Erivan Khanate, Zangezur and Goycha. Both our young generation and the whole world should know about this."

1. Statements like this, made by top Azerbaijani officials over many decades, can be found everywhere. The concept of "Western Azerbaijan" and everything surrounding it is an *actual* state policy. No, it is *not* tied to the situation with Nagorno-Karabakh. The "Western Azerbaijan" concept is a long-term project. To cut a long story short, it's about the gradual absorption of Armenia - demographically, territorially, economically, politically, and ultimately the de facto dismantling of the Armenian state.

2. Western countries, behind the scenes, support these ambitions of Azerbaijan, as openly admitted by Pashinyan's propagandists and advisors themselves, like Arsen Kharatyan, Sossi Tatikyan, etc. The goals of Azerbaijan here coincide with those of the West, which seeks to reduce Russian influence in the South Caucasus as much as possible and gain control over key economic and transport routes. Thus, they are pursuing a complete "integration" of Armenia into the Turkish-Azerbaijani axis across political, military, economic, etc. spheres. This makes the concept of "Western Azerbaijan" complementary to those Western ambitions.

3. In the image, Aliyev is pictured with a banner of the Erivan Khanate. The Erivan Khanate is a major part of the "Western Azerbaijan" concept. At that time, due to deportations and brutal living conditions, the Armenian population there had shrunk to around 20%. The conquests of the Russian Empire, the abolition of the khanate, the creation of the "Armenian Oblast" in its place, the first administrative unit in centuries to use the term "Armenia", and the subsequent REsettlement of Armenians, laid the foundations for the modern Armenian state.

This short historical excursion shows once again that without a strong Russian-Armenian alliance, everything achieved since 1828 will be reversed, leaving Armenia isolated, defenseless, and at the mercy of powers whose geopolitical goals either conflict with Armenian national interests or are actively hostile to the existence of the Armenian state.
