🚨Don’t stop talking about Iran.
Some nights leave a wound so deep that an entire country carries it forever. January 8, 2026, was one of those nights. Newly released footage reportedly recorded in Afsariyeh, Tehran, captures another fragment of the bloodshed: gunfire, terror, people desperately trying to survive, and the horrifying aftermath of violence in the streets. But before these images become another clip we watch and scroll past, remember that every person in that street had a life waiting somewhere else. Someone had a mother who had probably said, Be careful.” Someone had a father waiting for the sound of the key in the door. Someone had a child who did not understand why Mom or Dad hadn't come home yet. Someone had plans for the next morning. They didn't know there might not be a next morning. According to the account accompanying the newly released footage, people in Afsariyeh were subjected to lethal gunfire during the January crackdown. The precise circumstances and individual casualties shown in this particular clip still require independent verification. But behind every image of a person falling is a family whose life may have been divided forever into two pieces: before that night and after it. Imagine a mother calling again and again. No answer. Imagine hearing rumors of shootings and hospitals filling with wounded people, while desperately telling yourself, “Not my child. Please God, not my child.” Imagine searching hospitals, streets and morgues for the face you kissed goodbye only hours earlier. And then imagine finding them. How does a mother survive that moment? How does a father walk back into his child's bedroom afterward? Amid the enormous bloodshed of those days, activists have cited a toll of more than 100,000 Iranians killed in just two days, a figure that remains disputed and difficult to independently verify. Forty thousand sounds like a number until you understand what it means inside a home. One empty chair. One untouched bed. One pair of shoes by the door. One phone that will never answer again. One mother who would give the rest of her life for one more hug. AFSARIYEH, TEHRAN. JANUARY 8, 2026. Preserve the footage. Preserve the voices. Preserve the evidence. And remember the people. Because before they became faces in horrifying videos, they were someone's whole world.
