Every new change James Gunn made to Superman's mythos makes him a better man, and makes Earth a better foster home for Kal-El.

His parents:
1. Kryptonians, usually portrayed as Gods who lovingly bequeath their child to Earth to protect us as their last act. James Gunn changed it to RULE us, although that portion of their post mortem message to Kal-El was garbled, and Superman never heard it until now.

Makes way more sense. Also, creates conflict and distance between Superman and his homeworld. As it should be.

2. Ma and Pa Kent. Simple people. Just salt of the earth, not too bright, but kind and loving. Good homespun wisdom. The fact that Clark Kent is a good man who wants to save us wasn't preordained by some heavenly act of sacrifice. It's because he was raised by middle American values.

Brilliant change.
