This entire post is based on misunderstandings of Islamic law, scripture, and terminology. Let’s clarify each point with what the Qur’an and classical jurists actually say—rather than 15-second TikTok clichés:

1. “A woman’s testimony is half of a man’s.”

This is not a universal rule in Islam.
The Qur’anic verse (2:282) refers specifically to a commercial contract dispute in 7th-century Arabia—an environment where women had little exposure to business transactions.
In Islamic law:
•A woman’s testimony = a man’s in all criminal cases,
•= a man’s in marriage, divorce, custody, property, and inheritance disputes,
•and is required exclusively in cases where men cannot testify (e.g., childbirth).

Context-specific ≠ ontological inferiority.

2. “Islam lets a man hit his wife.”

Another mistranslation.
The word “waḍribūhunna” (4:34) does NOT mean “hit” in classical Arabic in this context.
All four Sunni madhāhib agree that:
•It prohibits harm, bruising, humiliation, or force,
•And most jurists interpret it as symbolic,
•While scholars like Ibn ʿAbbās and al-Ṭabarī said it means “separate from her”,
•And the Prophet ﷺ said: “Do not strike the female servants of Allah.” (Abu Dawud)

He never struck a woman and condemned those who did.

3. “Why romanticize the hijab?”

Hijab is not about male control.
It is a religious symbol of dignity, chosen by millions of women—scholars, activists, doctors—across the world.
Western culture romanticizes:
•bikinis,
•miniskirts,
•cosmetic surgery,
•sexualization for profit…

Why is a woman’s modesty the one expression that threatens people?

4. “Islam treats women like property.”

Islam was the first civilization in history to give women:
•the right to own property,
•the right to initiate divorce,
•the right to inherit,
•the right to education,
•the right to keep their maiden name,
•the right to refuse a marriage,
•financial maintenance without obligation to work.

Compare that to Europe, where:
•Women could not own property until the late 19th century,
•Wife-beating was legal until 1879,
•Marital rape was legal until the 1990s.

But Islam is “oppressive”?

If the best arguments against Islam come from misunderstandings, mistranslations, and TikTok rants… what does that say about the strength of the criticisms?
