This is the Reverse Vending Machine for recyclables that the late Mr Neels van Niekerk (left on the photo) invented. Mr Leonard van Niekerk (right on the photo) assisted his father, Neels, to build the machine. We honoured Neels on ⁦@GlbRecyclingDay⁩ for his work. #illybs

#BiodiversityMoments... Don’t you just love it when a #Ladybird comes to greet you? Today is #WorldEnvironmentDay hosted by the @UNEP. The focus this year is on #biodiversity and #ForNature.
I’m sharing this moment with a “Ladybird Beetle” (from the family Coccinellidae).

This one I believe to be a specimen of Harmonia axyridis (Asian Lady Beetle).
#Ladybird beetles are mostly carnivores and help keep pests under control (with a few exceptions). So welcome them in you garden, especially if you have some vegetables and fruit growing.

#BiodiversityMoments ...The 5th of June is #WorldEnvironmentDay hosted by @UNEP_Europe. The focus this year is on #biodiversity and #ForNature. I’m sharing another moment in nature with a “Dung Beetle” (from the family telecoprids) in the Loskop Valley, Mpumalanga.

#DungBeetles are vitally important for the #environment, as they clean up the majority of dung during the summer months. In many cases they are indicators for aging dung, as they usually find the dung within 20 minutes from it being deposited before they start to work it.

The tortoise came out of the bush, interacted with us, had some water and took off again. I hope for many more moments like these in my lifetime.
