Oh hell, I guess there's nothing left to do but to move over to @ilvestoomas.bsky.social. It seems civilised there. Hope it lasts.
Will be double posting for awhile weaning myself off this hellsite.

In the first eleven months of 2025, 10,109 doctoral-trained scientists left the federal government. The losses were concentrated in agencies that fund medical research, regulate environmental standards and model climate.

This morning, Republicans blocked our attempt to stop the IRS from giving Trump & his cronies immunity from investigations into their taxes.
While Trump rakes in $2.2 billion with his endless corruption, he’s also trying to get out of paying his fair share.
Unsurprising that Mexicans now view China and President Xi more favourably than the US and President Trump; @pewresearch reported that for the first time in almost two decades of surveys, both Canadians and Mexicans now view China more favourably than their neighbour and main trading partner, the US.
Mälestusmärgi autoriteks on Nikolai Thammel ja Amandus Adamson. Seega skulptuuri autoriteks on eestlased. Merineitsi prototüübina kasutas Adamson oma majapidajannat Julie-Lisette Rootsit. Seega palun väga, Russalka on täitsa puhas eestlane. /4
For decades, deterrence governed the U.S.–Russia rivalry: rival powers did not help identify American military targets. Reports Russia aided Iran may test that boundary—while Trump officials dismiss the risk as U.S. forces face attacks.

Great piece, letting you know that all is not lost.
Let August come. Russian culture will survive; its center of gravity is already outside Russia.
The regime succeeded in making it leave by killing it inside Russia. Sheep culture remains.
August has nothing to do with it.
.@ACEurasia’s @zygaro explains the premise of his new “Outer Russia” report:
“The central argument is that since the invasion of Ukraine, it is not only millions of people who have left Russia, but the center of gravity of Russian language culture has left as well.”

Behind the Kremlin’s Facade: Lavrov’s TASS Interview Reeks of Desperation and Decay
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s latest interview with TASS was carefully crafted to exude stability, determination, and ideological confidence. Instead, it revealed deep anxiety and a sense of historical gloom.
Behind the predictable accusations lies the portrait of an authoritarian empire that knows it is losing ground – morally, economically, and historically.
The interview provided three telling insights into the Kremlin’s current mindset:Fear of Disintegration
Lavrov’s obsessive warnings about Western plans to “decolonize” or divide the Russian Federation betray Russia’s internal fragility. Secure states do not spend enormous diplomatic energy fighting hypothetical separatists.Inadvertent Truths on the Battlefield
While boasting about “daily progress,” Lavrov admitted that things are “not moving as fast as we would like.” His complaints about Ukraine’s long-term attack capabilities show that Kiev has built up a serious offensive capability deep behind the lines.
Winning powers dictate terms; they do not complain that a ceasefire would leave their victims undefeated. A grotesque inversion of history: Lacking modern achievements, Lavrov retreated to Soviet nostalgia and the absurd claim that Moscow is “fighting fascism.
Turning history around to label independent democracies as “Nazis”—especially when Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky is Jewish and lost family in the Holocaust, and the recently replaced military chief Oleksandr Syrsky is an ethnic Russian—is a cynical grasp at past glory because the present offers nothing to celebrate.
