Patient care at NIMHANS must evolve into a model that sets the direction for mental-health services across the nation. The next phase requires redefining care not as a single encounter but as a continuous, data-informed journey.

Precision diagnostics, early-warning systems, and individualised treatment pathways should become standard practice. Care should be proactive rather than reactive, identifying vulnerabilities long before crises emerge.

Equity must be central to this vision. India’s mental-health burden is unevenly distributed, and access to high-quality care can still improve.

Most importantly, patient care must embrace dignity and partnership. Individuals should not feel they are entering a system that defines them by illness. Instead, they should encounter a system that supports recovery, strengthens family and community resilience, and prioritizes long-term reintegration into society.
