My theory on what happened in Season 1, Episode 1 that we have not seen yet:

MiY knew instantly who Tabitha was, and wanted to kill her off. He hitchhiked a ride from Tobey, whose friend Jade had passed out in the car. They moved Jade to the back seat so he could lay down and sleep better. When Matthews' RV was in sight, MiY grabbed Tobey's hand, causing a seizure, and the car to almost crash to the RV. MiY fled to the woods and had Tobey killed by Sara later on, so no one would know what had really happened. Tobey was trying to say "I should not have picked him up by the road.."

The RV's crash was not enough to kill Tabitha, but she received severe brain damage due to the blow to her head. That explains her inability to express feelings or form coherent sentences during the next 4 seasons of the show we've seen. It also explains why she always seems confused and doesn't behave logically.
