As someone working in fintech, I think the recent MDR decision is being blown out of proportion.
MDR is likely to affect merchants who are already doing meaningful volumes and can afford the cost. Small merchants, which indeed are around 95%, doing low-ticket transactions shouldn’t see much impact.
And let’s be honest Indians are jugaadu. If a small merchant occasionally needs to accept a transaction above ₹2,000, he/she can actually take the transaction on his personal QR.
The government has also invested heavily in building the UPI ecosystem through schemes like PIDF, infrastructure, incentives, etc.
So I don’t think the policy is nearly as bad as it’s being made out to be.
I was thinking whether to take the plunge and get the card
and then the good folks from HSBC came to my office 😂
Looks like I’ll be applying for this 10% no brainer cashback card.
Just realised how credit cards have completely spoiled travel for CC geeks in India. 💳🥳

Missed a ₹1,000 airport credit by one day 🥲
@getscapia gives you ₹1,000 to spend at the airport -food, shopping, anything once you hit ₹20,000 in a billing cycle.
I hit ₹20,000.
One day into the next cycle.
But at least I got 10% back in Scapia Points… 🥲
So if you’re tired of standing in lounge queues, Scapia is worth checking out.

I remember the craze when Tim Hortons, or “Timmy’s,” as Canadians usually call it, opened in CyberHub, Gurugram some time back.
But honestly, I found the coffee pretty average.
I also haven’t seen many people from my office or friend circle become regulars there.
Personally, I think @BlueTokaiCoffee is a much better option.
That said, it’ll be interesting to see how the expansion of these brands plays out in India.
Sometimes you get lucky ..
Recently I transferred some Atlas points to Accor using the Japan Airline route..
Since I had just created the JAL account.. I was not expecting the 20% bonus offer that was running..
Checked today and realised I had also received the 20% bonus ALL points !!
Happy with the extra points but the mind says "You could have transferred so much more " 😅
