Data shows cross-border traffic has been declining for the last two decades, the tolls on the Ambassador Bridge a few kilometres away are already unbeatably low, and its owners offered to build a second bridge for free, but Canada essentially refused.

Now this new bridge has cost Canadian taxpayers more than $7 billion, almost twice the expected amount, and studies show it will need subsidies of at least $60 billion, as toll revenue could never be enough to even pay off the bridge.

It was an absolutely unnecessary project, built by foreign construction giants accused of operating like cartels, and the U.S. government does have the legal framework to extradite Canadian politicians who allowed procurement irregularities to occur that have the hallmarks of bid rigging.
