(4/3, oops) In this session, we seek presentations that report ongoing glacier changes and their implications within the Arctic using a variety of methods, including field observations, modeling and/or remote sensing techniques.
(3/3) Quantifying and characterizing these changes is of paramount importance for understanding and projecting future glacier change within the Northern Hemisphere, which will have cascading impacts to downstream terrestrial and marine environments.
At the end of this month we are saying good bye to postdoc @glaciergirlie who is finishing up her NSERC Fellowship! Thanks for all of your contributions to the lab over the last two years!
Spring 2022 fieldwork is well underway in the Canadian High Arctic.
Glacier Mass balance measurements completed at:
✅Meighen ice cap
✅Melville ice cap
Next stop:
Devon ice cap for mass balance & firn core drilling

@SistersofSAR What a nice reminder!🥰
Only focused on the seasonal velocity variability of South Croker Bay using SAR now! I'm integrating more data as I work on finishing up my thesis! Currently digitizing the terminus of SCB for the last 5 years using TSX😀
Check out our new @JGREarthSurface paper below!
We use a dense record of winter surface velocities combined with ice thickness and bed elevation data to identify a shift in flow type on Trinity and Wykeham Glaciers - two of the fastest flowing glaciers in the Canadian Arctic.
This is the Triangulum Galaxy, 2.7 million light-years away! I had to stop imaging after 1h due to a massive cloud invasion, so I lost a lot of brightness and stars. Still came out better than expected! #Astrophotograhy
430 mm refractor
Cooled color camera
Exposure 80s, gain 130
My first presentable astro image! This is the galaxy IC342, 10.7 million lightyears away!
Captured with:
ZenithStar 73 telescope
ZWO 183 MC Pro camera
Optolong L-Pro multiband pass filter
Processed in PixInsight!!

🌞Happy #SAR_Fact Day! #SAR radiation is coherent allowing for phase & amplitude measurements of the backscattered waves. Reflected sunlight observed by optical satellites is not coherent as it has a wide range of wavelengths & random phase. #EOChat#TheMoreYouKnow
