El hombre dudó un segundo.

— ¿Por qué lo apuñalaste? —preguntó el juez.

— Porque escribió una novela contra la religión.

— ¿La leíste?

— No.

En una tercera sala, otro hombre enfrentaba cargos por asesinar al intelectual Farag Fouda.

— ¿Por qué lo mataste?

— Porque no tenía fe.

— ¿Cómo lo sabes?

In the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Iceland 🇮🇸 is a lighthouse at an altitude of 40m. It was built on Westman Island in 1939 a time when helicopters were not yet in use. Master climbers were used during its construction and for transportation of materials.

Perched dramatically atop a sheer sea stack off the coast of Iceland’s Westman Islands, the Þrídrangaviti lighthouse is one of the most isolated and breathtaking structures in the world.

Built in 1939, before the advent of helicopters, the construction of this lighthouse was a staggering feat of human determination and mountaineering skill.

With the Atlantic Ocean raging below and no easy access, master climbers scaled the treacherous rock face to transport tools, materials, and even themselves to the 40m high summit. The purpose of the lighthouse was to warn ships navigating the volatile North Atlantic waters of the dangerous sea stacks in the region.

To this day, its position looks surreal, more like something out of a fantasy novel than a functional navigational aid. Accessible only in calm weather and now occasionally reached by helicopter, Þrídrangaviti remains a striking symbol of Icelandic resilience, engineering ingenuity, and the human will to tame the extremes of nature.

When the Þrídrangaviti lighthouse was first completed in 1939, the final ascent to the summit had no safety railing—just a near-vertical climb up the bare rock. It wasn’t until decades later that a helicopter landing pad was added, finally making it safer (and slightly less terrifying) to reach one of the world’s most remote lighthouses.
