I accompanied by good friend and brother @Arcfunmi (who has finally decided to show us his face 😁) to OAU to honor his invite as a panelist for the NAAS (National Association of Architecture Students) southwest regional symposium 2026.

It was an interesting experience; I got to experience the Architecture and urban planning of OAU and visit its Architecture department for the first time. I also met @afolabi_adedeji for the first time as well after years of online interaction and I’ll say that our profession needs more experienced Architects like him with the passion for nurturing younger ones.

As one of the judges for the student competition where students from different schools in the SW region came to showcase their concepts and designs I saw some authentic design-thinking and it gave me the assurance that the future of Architecture is in good hands.

I also got to meet some students and younger Architects whom I’ve been interacting with here and have been following along with my work and advocacy for climate-smart Architecture and development like @Dee_Floki @IbukunTim @imam_imran_ and many others.

We look forward to more of this because we believe that the growth and advancement of our dear profession requires a collective effort from everyone concerned.

Despite being the only representative from Unilorin which wasn’t the coolest thing, I was glad I learnt quite a lot and also part of the experience. It was really a great pleasure finally meeting you @Arcfunmi and @vangeorgh.

That an architectural style was used out of survival does not mean we should adopt it. Our own generation might just need a different way to solve problems that are peculiar to our period, which we would need a new architectural solution for.

Of course, we can take some lessons from the past, but we can't copy and paste from the past,.... If we do so, it would appear as though we are going backward and we would be devoid of any innovations.
