Since when did rappers start competing with pop artists? This is so lame — comparing yourself to an artist who passed away and acting like you “beat” him by breaking a record that didn’t even exist in his era.
michael jackson set those records in an era without streaming, social media, or instant global accessibility, yet his impact became so immense that the modern music industry still revolves around standards he introduced. the blueprint will always mean more than the statistics.
Michael Jackson had to sell actual physical copies to people who left their houses (no bots, playlists, streaming platforms etc).
Songs like this one will be forgotten in 2/3 weeks. He can have all the #1s but he'll never touch even the 0.01% of MJ's impact, for sure.
Anyways:
@PopBase Surpassing a cultural icon who spent years perfecting legendary albums with a song called "Janice STFU" is exactly why nobody takes chart milestones seriously anymore.
