Salamat kaps! There is something profoundly beautiful about seeing an artist who no longer needs to busk choose to do it anyway.
Pablo stood there in his normcore fits with a body bag slung over his shoulder, accompanied by a skeleton crew of a band and a simple printed sheet with his social media handles in front of them. He took the time to introduce every member of the band by name, not once, but twice, making sure the people creating the music with him were seen too.
Except this wasn’t an unknown artist hoping to be discovered.
Not even 3 months ago, his group, SB19 performed in front of an estimated 100k people. He has a concert in one week that is already sold out. They also have a Grammy Global Spin event in a little over 2 weeks and an hour long set at Lollapalooza as the first Filipino act to perform at the festival.
Yet here he was again, playing for whoever happened to stop and listen.
He could have relied on algorithms or media tours, instead he chose one of the oldest and most vulnerable ways of sharing music: standing in a public space and letting the songs speak first.
To me, that little printed sheet is the most touching part. It doesn’t say, “You already know who I am.” It quietly says, “If you liked what you heard, here’s where you can find more.” Eto po sa papel.
It also reminds me of something I’ve come to admire about SB19. They never seem to treat busking as something they’ve outgrown. Whether it’s Taipei, Singapore, LA or now BGC, they keep returning to it, not because they need to, but because they genuinely enjoy sharing music with people where they are.
In the music industry, success often means becoming more distant, yet Pablo and SB19 keeps finding ways to become more accessible.
May they never lose that. 🥹

What makes SB19 eight-year run remarkable is that the hype surrounding them has never relied solely on PR campaigns or industry push. While marketing can create awareness, it cannot sustain genuine interest over time. SB19’s momentum is different it is visible in sold-out concerts, organic online engagement, and the unwavering support of fans who actively promote their work across platforms. This kind of hype is not manufactured it is earned.
A’TIN, plays a crucial role, but even that support is a response to something real. Fans are drawn not just to polished performances, but to the group’s discipline, involvement in their own production, and willingness to take creative control. In a landscape where “payola” and artificial boosts are often questioned, SB19 stands as an example of how longevity comes from credibility. People stay because they see the work, the improvement, and the sincerity.
Eight years in, SB19 is not simply maintaining relevance they are redefining what it means to last. Their story challenges the idea that hype fades quickly, proving instead that when it is rooted in authenticity, it can grow stronger over time. This is not a moment created by noise or influence behind the scenes. It is the result of years of effort, talent, and a genuine bond with their audience.
SB19’s longevity is their strongest statement: real hype doesn’t need to be forced it endures.😉

Y’know, just like what happened with PH Arena, most of us were skeptical about holding a concert there because of the bad reviews. But then SB19 changed that perspective and gave us one of the best experiences ever at that once-daunting venue.
Now, I think it’s safe to say the same thing happened with SMDC Festival Grounds. Many were against or skeptical of the open-area venue. But then again, SB19 and their team changed that and did their best to give us the best concert experience possible at the venue.
Amazing performances are always expected and guaranteed, but having a good overall experience is not always a given.
They gave us big LED screens, put up risers so the farther sections could still see esbi, provided care kits for all tiers, made the comfort rooms actually comfortable, plus many more intentional details to make sure everyone had a good experience, regardless of their tier.
And all of this wouldn’t have been possible without @1zentertainment, Direk @paolovalenciano’s team, @livenationph, the Aseana/SMDC team, and other teams I may have missed.
So, thank you so much to everyone 😭 I’ve been to a few concerts here in the Philippines, both local and international artists, but the experience with SB19 will always be top-tier. There’s care and intention. It’s really for the fans.
