Liberal gun bill leaves legal owners feeling targeted
Six Nations’ Ryan Anderson, who co-owns Grand Passage Outlet, questions Bill C-21’s effectiveness in fighting illegal activity.

“I don’t think it’s going to do anything as far as crime,” he said. “I don’t think it’s people in the #hunting and sport community doing this kind of stuff.”

From an #Indigenous perspective, handguns may be carried by those operating a trapline as more rapidly accessible personal protection against bear or cougar attacks.

“Way up north, they deal with a lot of different things.”

Bill #C21’s original list of prohibited firearms also included the SKS, for example, a 7.62x39 calibre rifle Anderson says is popular with #FirstNations people.

“Mainly because of how affordable it and its ammunition is, and how reliable. It’s very accurate.”

He is also concerned about the cost of the #buyback program.

Hamilton Gun Club president David Troiani is familiar with gun control legislation and rhetoric.

“You never know when it’s going to resurface,” he said. “The only way to fix that is educating people that legal gun owners are not the problem.”

Founded in 1882, the oldest gun club in Canada offers 14 trap fields, four skeet and sporting clay and archery ranges to 640 members, around 70 of whom are women. The facility has hosted more than 100 provincial and numerous national trap shooting competitions.

Member @emilybrown1960 is a math professor at Sheridan College and a former federal @CPC_HQ candidate while not knocking clay pigeons out of the sky with her Beretta 682 Gold E shotgun. Brown has been shooting since the age of 12, competitively for 50 years."
