I messaged Itagaki-san in August. This was the last message he sent me. Dead Or Alive 4, Ninja Gaiden 2, and Devil’s Third are among my favorite games. I know he wouldn’t want me to cry, but I did anyway. Rest in peace, Itagaki-san. You… Legend, you. Gone too soon
At last, I made it to Tomonobu Itagaki’s resting place.
Farewell, my comrade-in-arms. You’re probably still fighting something even in the afterlife — but please rest well.
I’ll keep fighting a little longer here.
At this point its almost cliche to bring up Picasso, but if its true its true
Even if you want to break convention and step outside the established "rules", you need fundamentals
Man... I really like Trails in the Sky FC. Normally, I don't prefer games this "slow" but there's almost a cozy game vibe to the narrative experience. You live in this world. You take your time and enjoy the slow burn.
Combat also absolutely kicks ass, S tier turn based.
Itagaki taught me to never abandon the way of the ninja, no matter how hard it got.
Rarely do you get someone who has made such an impact with their work that is felt across so many other games. RIP you still had so much to do.
Rest in peace, Tomonobu Itagaki. Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden made an undeniable impact on gaming. I only crossed paths with him a few times, but he could not have been nicer.
@realHardEight@BikelaneDui@GenePark false claims about responsiveness. What's absurd is that a lot of reviews for Devil’s Third mention things that are easily debunked if you've played the game lol
@realHardEight@BikelaneDui@GenePark True true. He'd already created an arguably unrivaled action game, so I don't know what people expected. The gameplay was legit. Perhaps the reviewers at the time were too naive and, imo, undermined their own credibility by trashing it. What irks me are the lies about bugs and
@BikelaneDui@GenePark The game went through a tough dev cycle, but was released polished. The way game journalists and other fanboys or hacks slandered the game, claiming it was buggy and unresponsive, taught me never to take game criticism at face value
It’s hard to believe, but Itagaki-san…my senior from university and my rival as a creator has passed away.
The last message I ever received from him was,
“Let’s go drinking. Let’s make some noise soon!”
To think that he’s gone at just 58 years old…
Yes, everyone dies eventually …that’s inevitable.
But you… isn’t it a bit too soon?
Didn’t you say you were going to defeat me someday?
Didn’t you come to my wedding, wearing your usual black leather jacket and sunglasses,
and call me your comrade-in-arms?
Didn’t you tell me to come to you whenever I was in trouble?
I never even got the chance to consult you about anything.
Honestly… I’m really depressed.
—Itagaki’s final message (English translation)—
Words I Leave Behind The flame of my life is finally about to go out. If this message has been posted, it means that the time has come. I am no longer in this world. (This final post has been entrusted to someone dear to me.)
My life was a series of battles. And I kept on winning. I know I caused trouble for many along the way. But I followed my convictions and fought to the very end. I have no regrets.
Only one thing weighs on me — I’m deeply sorry to all my fans that I couldn’t bring you a new work. I truly am. That’s just how it is. So it goes.
Tomonobu Itagaki

@MrYGuy2 Imo, there’s nothing inherently wrong with these concepts in a horror game. Besides, the bonuses listed in the post are for later NG+ runs and aren't obtainable during the first playthrough anyway. It’s not possible to do whats shown in the video until NG+
@hyxkkimxru The game goes much faster the next time when you launch NG+ and the subsequent playthroughs onwards. You’ll know where to go and how to play more effectively, etc. Replayability is part of the appeal 😅
