Meet Mochi 🐾 He’s a 9 y/o boxer mix with osteoarthritis, who has been staying at my local humane society for the last 5 months. Shelter staff told me it had been a while since he’d gotten out. They said he’d been starting to get a little depressed… and tbh you could kind of see it at first. He seemed happy but very unsure.
But after enjoying a ride in the car with his head out the window, feeling the sun and air in his chops; as we started hiking, he started to come alive again.
By the end of the day, he had his tongue out, big goofy smile, just enjoying the moment. It honestly felt like watching him remember what it’s like to just be a dog.
And it stuck with me… how something so small on our end can mean so much to them. It can be the smallest kind gestures that make the biggest impact.
You don’t have to adopt to make a difference. Programs like Doggy Date let you just give a dog a few hours and that in itself can change their whole day.
This is what D.O.G.E. means to me. Not just solely online but actually showing up IRL too.
There are a lot of dogs like Mochi out there who just need a little time, a little care, a little break.
If you can, go give them that day. Give them that love. Give them that life.
