Rep. Sylvester Turner has passed away at 70 years old. He leaves behind a profound legacy of service to his community and the nation. A former mayor of Houston and a dedicated member of the Texas House, Turner’s career spanned decades of fighting for the people of Houston and advocating for social justice. His recent election to Congress in January was the culmination of years of public service, having earned a law degree from Harvard and serving as a state legislator for over 25 years.

Known for his fierce advocacy, Turner made his final impact just hours before his passing, speaking out for Medicaid support and reminding us all to "don’t mess with Medicaid." His commitment to his constituents never wavered, even in his final moments. Turner’s death leaves a void, but his legacy as a fighter, leader, and champion of Houston’s people will never be forgotten.
