Everything was going great. I was genuinely happy for Lamine’s victory, and I had already made peace with Messi losing the title… until this moment.
Before the final, Messi said this would be his last game for Argentina. Like many others, I thought he was joking or trying to throw everyone off. We all remembered how he said similar things after Qatar, only to return for the next World Cup.
Then the crowd started chanting his name.
That’s when Messi broke down in tears.
In that moment, it felt like he was sending us one final message: this really is goodbye. The last time we’ll ever see him wearing Argentina’s shirt… and maybe the last time we’ll ever see him on a football pitch.
So that’s it?
You’re really not going to play football again?
Goodbye, my friend. 💔🇦🇷🐐
Its peak pineapple season in the Northeast and I’ve been feasting on them lately. Today’s star was the famous Assam Giant Queen from Karbi Anglong- super juicy & sweet and honestly one of the best you’ll ever taste. You have to try it, it’s literally to “die for”!
Now people in London will find Assam’s finest ginger at their doorsteps! 🇬🇧🌱
Under the dynamic leadership of Hon’ble CM Dr. @himantabiswa, the first-ever GI-tagged Karbi Anglong Ginger consignment has been exported from Assam to London.
This milestone, facilitated by APEDA, highlights Assam’s growing global agri footprint and ensures better returns for our hardworking farmers.
From the fertile farms of Assam to international markets, the world is embracing Assamese products with great enthusiasm and appreciation. 🌍

GU Research Milestone
What does a farewell to the dead reveal about a community's ideas of life, memory, and belonging? This Gauhati University research milestone turns attention to 'Chomangkan', the ritual of the dead practised by the Karbi community of Assam, mainly in Karbi Anglong and neighbouring districts.
For the Karbis, death is a journey rather than an end. Chomangkan, performed months or even years after a person’s death, brings families and communities together for a final act of love, guiding the soul to the ancestral world, ensuring peace for the departed, and offering comfort to the living.
Spanning several days, Chomangkan unfolds through songs, chants, dance, and shared labour, centred on 'Mosera Kihiran', a sacred oral epic sung by trained singers that guides the soul while recounting Karbi migration stories, memories, and values. In the absence of a written script, these chants preserve history and emotion, transforming grief into solidarity and memory into continuity.
Published in the international peer-reviewed journal "Religions" (Vol. 13, Article 510) by MDPI, Switzerland, the article titled “Ritual of the Dead: Karbi Chomangkan Festival in Its Cultural Context”, the study by Prof. Rena Laisram (Department of History, Gauhati University) and her research scholar Ms. Laxmi Hansepi, documents a rapidly disappearing ritual and reaffirms Gauhati University’s commitment to preserving Northeast India’s living cultural heritage.

On 19th December 2025, I attended a highly productive meeting at Rongmapi Apam, under Amri constituency, organized by Karbi Honghari Amei and Karbi Honghari Youth Association.
Our discussions centered on strategic and effective ways to strengthen our ancestral religion. Our traditional faith is the very soul of Karbi identity, and preserving this spiritual heritage remains a top priority. Through dedicated platforms like these, we ensure that our roots remain strong for generations to come.

#OPINION | In #Assam’s autonomous regions, Sixth Schedule remains strong on paper but weak in practice, praised in speeches and diluted in administration.

Fans aren't setting Alarms for 5 am just to watch a one-sided affair. The Ashes thrives on tension, on sessions that swing momentum, on both sides pushing each other to the limit. For the sake of the series, England need to stay alive in this test.

I had the honour of submitting a detailed Memorandum to Shri Dharmendra Pradhanji @dpradhanbjp, Hon'ble Hon’ble Union Minister of Education, Government of India, in Parliament New Delhi, yesterday urging the establishment of a Central Tribal University at Diphu—a long-standing and legitimate aspiration of the hill tribal people of Assam. For our people, this proposal is not merely administrative—it represents a deep commitment to peace, trust and the promise of progress.
During our earlier discussions, the Hon’ble Minister had expressed concerns regarding the creation of another Central University in Assam. I have respectfully appealed once again for the establishment of a Central Tribal University—not a generic university—which would directly serve the educational needs of our tribal communities and uplift higher learning across Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao and other tribal regions of the Northeast.
I am deeply grateful that the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. @himantabiswa Ji, has strongly endorsed our proposal. In his communication to the Union Minister, he emphasised that:
The tribal population of Karbi Anglong has long lacked adequate higher educational infrastructure
Diphu is the most appropriate location for a Central Tribal University. The Govt of Assam fully supports the establishment of a Central Tribal University, and Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council - Kaac will provide all required land and facilitation
The North East—despite its rich tribal heritage—remains without a Central Tribal University, even though such institutions have been successfully established in Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Telangana. It is time that our tribal students too receive equal opportunities for higher education, research, and academic empowerment.
Our proposal outlines the core objectives of the University:
To prioritise tribal students, with special admission preference
To serve as an affiliating university for all colleges in Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong & Dima Hasao
To set up campuses across tribal areas of Assam and the Northeast
To build advanced facilities for tribal studies, research & academic development
On behalf of the people of Karbi Anglong, I earnestly appeal for positive consideration of this proposal so that we may open a new chapter of educational empowerment, equity, and lasting peace in our region.
Along with Shri @Amarsingejangpo, Hon'ble MP, Shri @darsingronghang, Hon'ble MLA, Dr Jayanta Rongpi Ex MP & CEM, my colleague @DrMongve_Rongpi MAC, Khorsing Teron, my adviser, et al.

Farewell to a Legend 😢
Mohanmala, the iconic Elephant of Kaziranga National Park, took her final bow in August 2025 at an estimated age of 90.
For over five decades, she stood as a loyal protector ~ leading anti-poaching patrols, guiding rangers through dense forests, and rescuing countless lives during Assam’s devastating floods.
Honoured with full departmental rites, Mohanmala leaves behind a legacy of courage, service, and unwavering devotion to the wild she called home.
A true guardian. A gentle warrior. A symbol of what loyalty looks like. 🐘💔
Today happens only once in a lifetime and it’s that day for “Justin Greaves”.
Let’s not forget Kemar Roach in this effort👏👏
Also, Shai Hope was remarkable with the bat in both the innings ✅
Exceptional day for @windiescricket#wivnz
