"For a client who has pending asylum cases to get work permits, one of the things they have to submit with their application for a work permit is some sort of identity document," he said. "For many of them, the only documents they can get is from the Salvadoran government."

Immigrant children were hired in Grand Island to work the overnight shift cleaning dangerous equipment and using harsh chemicals at a meatpacking plant. Many of the children, if not all of them, are unaccompanied minors, children who came to the US without a parent or guardian.
