Well, well, well...I was lied to by a @Verizon salesperson on my doorstep. I was supposed to saving money based on my account with Mint. Instead I am paying $140 more and "there's nothing we can do" after 45 minutes on the phone with customer support!
@IFFFMEISTER Is this a form of the "No True Scotsman" fallacy? I've heard this argued recently, and was a new idea to me as mildly Reformed thinker myself.
@CalvinistFather@rickpidcock Ah, that's a good clarifying point. Now I'm interested, how would you see this applying to the sick or disabled? Is it a case of "if you CAN, you must as this is intrinsic to God's design for maleness"?
@CalvinistFather@rickpidcock It certainly applies. It's just a question of how. The fact that Jesus and Paul accepted support from female benefactors suggests that insisting on strictly male breadwinning is too narrow an interpretation. I think it is making a broader point about one's obligation to family.
@CalvinistFather@rickpidcock The fact that it is addresses to "anyone" and then a masculine pronoun follows suggests that it is an inclusive pronoun (much like Spanish 'hermanos' can include women). This suggests it is applying to a general duty to care for one's family and relatives & not rely on the church
@themajestysmen@DeanAbbott@rickpidcock If "anyone does not provide." You see this as applying primarily to men as breadwinners? Is that what it means in the context of the passage? Is that what Paul is talking about?
@AmericanAir I already wrote and they refuse to offer anything else. This will be the last time I fly AA domestic. Worst airline experience of my life. #AmericanAir
@AmericanAir An entire day of delays that made me miss a day of work. No hotel credit. No meal credit. Wrote a complaint and got $25 flight credit! What an insult. How exactly is that supposed to compensate? Never fly AA to South Dakota. There's no way to get out! #AmericanAir
@AmericanAir What a mess! Flight from RAP-CLT delayed overnight for maintenance issue. I rebooked and asked for a hotel voucher. Was told to 4 hours only to be told after waiting that I'm not eligible! Incredible. No concern for the customer at all.
@CSLewisDaily It seems the person running this account is not very familiar with the orthodox Christian beliefs C.S Lewis defended. This is not what Christians believe. The sad thing is that you could easily run an account with profound daily Lewis quotes without resorting to this.
@ericmetaxas@OsGuinness This would seem to be Rod Dreher's position in The Benedict Option. But I'm not sure how that fits French or Moore. They seem very much to be publicly engaged Christian's. They're not hiding in a Christian bubble just "keeping their head down." French is a columnist with NYT!
@esaumccaulley Stay strong. "Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life ." James 1:12
@Writerwhsmith @JosiahHawthorne Oh for sure. I find those arguments helpful and convincing. I would say they add to the cumulative case in favor of scripture being trustworthy as the ultimate authority. But if it is to truly be ultimate it must be able to self authenticate.
