This is very sad news indeed.
Professor Bauer was a tour de force of Holocaust scholarship, and a privilege to meet, listen to and learn from. Seldom have I experienced a room so silent you could hear a pin drop as when he gave a lecture. May he rest in peace.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Honorary Chairman, Yehuda Bauer. He left an indelible mark on both the IHRA and the field of Holocaust studies, and his moral guidance, insight, and friendship will be sorely missed: https://t.co/x8zo6xOjw8
Very pleased and proud to finally share what I - as part of an incredible team - have been working on at @HolocaustUK for the last eight months! #Testimony360
A new era for Holocaust Education. Today we launch #Testimony360, a ground-breaking initiative which combines VR technology and interactive survivor testimony to enrich Holocaust education in schools. Watch the trailer and learn more about how to get involved.
@RishiSunak 'The last thing I want is for the commemorations to be overshadowed by politics,' says the man who left those commemorations to record a TV interview focused on politics
The online @_BIAHS_ conference will take place on 2 February 2024, 09:00-17:00 UK time. The deadline for submissions has been extended to Friday 1 December. Please send proposals for 20-minute papers to [email protected]. Papers on any relevant subject welcomed!
A train in Birmingham, 2023. 'Juden raus' = German for 'Jews out', a phrase used by the Nazis and their collaborators in the 1930s/'40s. Never did I think a phrase I discuss in historical research would appear on my train home.
I despair.
Great to speak to Elise Bath at @wienerlibrary about the ITS Archive and the 'Fate Unknown' travelling exhibition for the @_BIAHS_ blog. Highly recommended if you are near Northumbria University this Wednesday!
In anticipation of its display at Northumbria University on 15 November 2023, BIAHS board member @imogendl spoke to Elise Bath, the ITS Archive Team Manager at @wienerlibrary for our latest blog post:

Finished watching 'Union with @DavidOlusoga' on iPlayer last night. A fascinating, thought-provoking documentary series that helps to explain so many of the current divisions across the UK and really made me consider my own sense of national identity. Highly recommended viewing!
The increase in antisemitic attacks and abuse in countries far removed from Israel since Saturday is, sadly and frighteningly, all too familiar and all too predictable.
Sending my Jewish friends and colleagues across the world love and support, and thinking of their safety.
London: A Kosher restaurant vandalised.
It is essential to acknowledge that the defensive measures taken in Israel mustn’t be a pretext for spreading hatred against Jews worldwide.
There must be zero tolerance for antisemitism or any glorification of terrorism on our streets.
@_eviecrobinson@RHUL_HRI@LordJohnMann I'm so pleased to hear you're enrolling in the MA! It's such a fantastic course with such brilliant staff, you will not be disappointed :)
Lord @AlfDubs arrived in the UK on the Kindertransport. He came here as a child refugee, undoubtedly overwhelmed, frightened and in need of some measure of comfort and reassurance. No wonder he looks visibly shaken here.
This government's callousness is beyond comprehension.
Asked by @AlfDubs about disgraceful actions of @ukhomeoffice to remove cartoons from Kent reception as they are 'too welcoming for children', Minister says:
'It is the correct decision these facilities have the requisite decoration befitting their purpose'
📢Shameful cruelty
I always leave @HolocaustUK#AmCon feeling so motivated and inspired. Thank you to everyone who came to my workshops, all the fascinating speakers, our wonderful survivors and the HET team for their consistent hard work and organisation! #10for10
This time next month, I will be in Rwanda for a week-long charity project. I'm fundraising for vocational training for a young adult born of rape during the 1994 genocide; anything you can spare would be truly appreciated 🙏 https://t.co/YwOWL5Lq4o
Very sad to hear about the death of Sir Ben Helfgott MBE. He once told me he thought I'd be good at weightlifting, which I laughed off - but I've always had him in mind now that it's become one of my hobbies! May his memory be a blessing 🌹
The Holocaust Educational Trust is deeply saddened to learn of the loss of our dear friend, mentor and honorary patron Holocaust survivor Sir Ben Helfgott MBE 1929-2023.
Thank you so much to everyone who attended my @_BIAHS_ talk this evening; I'm overwhelmed by the comments, ideas and messages of encouragement I've received. Lots of food for thought and plans to make from this session!
