Advocates are also calling attention to how dangerous drag show restrictions will be for LGBTQ+ people.

Iranian students in over 10 cities have fallen ill after inhaling nitrogen gas that was deliberately placed in girls’ schools.

Authorities are still investigating a motive for the poisonings and determining who is responsible.

Officials in Iran are still searching for answers as to why schoolgirls are being deliberately poisoned.

• Younes Panahi, a deputy health minister, believes the person responsible “wanted all schools, especially girls’ schools, to be closed.”
• However, activists believe the poisonings could be punishment for schoolgirls’ participation in anti-government protests sparked by the killing of Mahsa Amini.

A special committee has been assembled to investigate the poisonings. No arrests have been made.
