Like a plant, all big things start small. Paradigm Initiative’s Life Skills, ICTs, Financial Readiness, and Entrepreneurship (LIFE) legacy initiative is no exception.
From a humble cyber café in Ajegunle, Nigeria, LIFE has grown into a transformative force, equipping underserved youth across eleven African countries with the tools they need to thrive in the digital economy. What began as a small idea rooted in community and vision has become a legacy of empowerment and opportunity. With your support, we can go further. Help us continue building this legacy and unlocking potential across Africa.
Together, we are not just shaping skills, we are shaping futures. Donate to shape a future: https://t.co/6uP4l3qtNq

Paradigm Initiative (PIN) joins dozens of other civil society organistions to condemn the intentional disruption of access to the internet in #Nigeria following protests that erupted in several states across the country on the 1st of August, 2024.
This action constitutes an unacceptable breach of established norms and standards under regional and international human rights instruments to which Nigeria is a State party and must be halted forthwith.
We believe the weaponization of Internet disruptions and blocking or shutdowns during political unrest only exacerbates the underlying concerns of citizens. These shutdowns go against Chapter four of Nigeria's Constitution that assures its citizens of their rights to freedom of conscience, expression, assembly and association.

August 01st, 2024 marked the World Wide Web day. It was an opportunity for us all to celebrate the innovation that connects us all, breaking down barriers and bridging gaps across the globe.
Despite remarkable strides in international bandwidth and domain registrations, there exist infrastructural gaps, limited awareness, and policy obstacles as key impediments to digital inclusivity.
PIN Programmes Officer, Sani Suleiman highlights these gaps and recommendations in a recently launched Africa DNS market report by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

The response of our government to civic and peaceful protest with live ammunition is unacceptable in a democratic system. Our Constitution is clear on the rights of citizens to peaceful assembly and promoting #accountability in #governance.

Remember Martin Niemoller's warning: "First they came for the socialists, but I said nothing... Then they came for me, and there was no one left to help." Don't stay silent when others are targeted! Stand up for each other, or risk standing alone when it's your turn.

The reason the internet, the worldwide web, and the hypertext transfer protocol were invented was to facilitate information transfer and exchange.
20+ years after coming online, many of us still don't know that the primary reason the web exists is information, not entertainment.
If you're interested in developing public sector leadership skill and are within the ages of 21 and 35, please visit https://t.co/8ML3TWuDTy before 21st July.

The conversation on digital rights and democracy is more than ever, crucial for Rwanda. This, as it gears up for Presidential elections in July 2024.
The East African nation has remained a beacon in ICT innovation and other best practices. However, it continues to face criticism for surveillance and censorship, as highlighted by the Londa 2023 report on digital rights and inclusion in Africa.
Join us on June 19 at the Net Rights Coalition (NRC) Webinar to discuss these trends and recommendations to ameliorate the condition.

The rise of digital repression today is hinged on the booming spyware and surveillance market and big tech and mobile network companies that are exporting technologies that undermine fundamental #humanrights and freedoms without any accountability.
On May 30, Paradigm Initiative (PIN) Executive Director, @gbengasesan joined other stakeholders to discuss digital surveillance and the threats to democracy, at the 2024 Surveillance and Society Conference in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
It was an opportunity to launch PIN’s report “The State of Deployment of Surveillance Technologies in Africa,” presenting its findings. The report identifies specific case studies of deployment of surveillance technologies, maps actors in the surveillance ecosystem, and evaluates the regulatory framework and privacy laws landscape in the regions.

Tension, excitement, wit, courage and determination.
These are but a few values exhibited as Omar attempts to survive in Paradigm Initiative’s latest short film, #Undersight.
Played by @Emeneks , Omar is a brilliant programmer who creates a data collection software that threatens his own existence as the deep state attempts to gain control of it by all means.
Inspired by our report on digital rights and inclusion in Africa, #Undersight will premiere on May 31. You don’t want to miss this.

@winexviv This is a really comprehensive approach!
We did the same thing in Yala Local Government area of Cross River State in 2023 with the @ParadigmHQ#LIFELegacy program . Heart breaking to see young people already set up to fail. Love the engagement analysis.

At the recently concluded annual summit #DRIF24, one of our emphasized concerns was improving and expanding our capacity to support marginalized people and communities in the digital world by creating awareness and promoting safety and moderation.
