@DanCrenshawTX They were nowhere near a nuclear weapon. You JUST shit on @TuckerCarlson for being disingenuous, and you turn around and post this slop. You have no self-respect.
Anyone who thinks @peterthiel or @sama or @DarioAmodei give a flying fuck whether China wins the “AI war” - is deluded. These boys don’t think in terms of nations. They want you dumb and scared enough to allow them to continue over-funded and completely unregulated.
You mean the Old Testament. Which is in clear contradiction to the New Testament - where Jesus was much less “tough on crime”. As a Catholic I don’t freak out about biblical contradictions because we are more comfortable w the concept of parable, historical context, and mysteries of faith than Protestants.
You suggested I did not get past PHIL 101. I provided you with a response. And you responded w an ad hominem attack on whether I understood my coursework. Interesting.
And it’s disingenuous of AI allies to pretend that philosophical arguments support the notion that:
A. consciousness is unknowable
B. that a normal person’s innate understanding that humans’ experiences of themselves are different than a computer program’s is somehow impossible to prove
@JohnOmniadeo@millerman I have a psychology PhD and a psychology / philosophy BA.
The skepticism of consciousness is being trotted out by tech bros to prevent the regulation of their products under the guise of ensoulment. And the raising of AI to the level of humanity. It’s transparent and boring.
@artaxAF@timotheeology Good job. You can ChatGPT something. Now ask it to list anti capital punishment Catholic theologians. You won’t post the response.
“And have debated it throughout”. I doubt you’ve read Thomas Aquinas. But you did make a cute AI meme. So you must be an expert.
The church has said since 1566 that capital punishment is permissible for dangerous criminals to protect the common good. And Catholic theologians have debated that line consistently.
John Paul codified the shifting thinking in 1992, saying capital punishment should be eliminated.
@Nomma_o What a bad argument.
You think the church should still be in the cathedral building business?
The anime business?
It just created an argument interesting enough that the whole of X is discussing it.
@UnmarredReality JFC.
If you guys want to do a psyops to deregulate AI or whatever, you should probably be more subtle.
No one will ever know if AI is conscious. Computer programmers masquerading as philosophers certainly won’t prove it — one way or the other.
@secondrealm Because it will make any kind of external restrictions and regulation very difficult. They’re arguing for the ensoulment of their products to create a new class of product. One for which it would be immoral to regulate.
You’re against abortion because in the 1960s the American conservative movement co-opted evangelical Protestants to create the modern “pro-life” movement.
Catholics have been anti-death penalty and generally anti-war for centuries.
You don’t have standing to make your arguments.
@bcdsignature Holy Halo Effect. You may know something about AI, but what a stupid idea. Hard to believe you would post it with such little introspection.
