Nigeria Facilitates Safe Return Of Ex-Sierra Leone President Ernest Koroma
Nigeria has facilitated the safe and dignified return of former Sierra Leone President Ernest Bai Koroma to Freetown, bringing an end to more than two years of temporary relocation in Abuja. He was seen off at the airport by former President Goodluck Jonathan while Former President Olusegun Obasanjo joined the delegation in escorting Koroma back to Freetown.
In a statement, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who also escorted Koroma to Sierra Leone on the directive of President Bola Tinubu, describes the return as the successful conclusion of a regional diplomatic and confidence-building process.
She says Koroma’s relocation to Nigeria in January 2024 followed engagements by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) aimed at promoting peace, stability and political understanding in Sierra Leone.
Speaking in Freetown, Bianca Ojukwu points out that Koroma’s relocation to Nigeria in January 2024 followed interventions by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) aimed at promoting peace and political stability in Sierra Leone.
She notes that the process helped ease tensions and foster greater understanding between President Julius Maada Bio and the former president.
According to her, sustained engagements involving ECOWAS, the Nigerian Government, and other stakeholders during Koroma’s stay in Nigeria contributed to resolving the issues that necessitated his temporary relocation.
Bianca Ojukwu also expresses appreciation to President Bio, former President Koroma, and the people of Sierra Leone for their cooperation and commitment to peace.
She reaffirms Nigeria’s commitment to regional harmony, constitutional order, and democratic stability, expressing confidence that Koroma’s return will further strengthen national reconciliation in Sierra Leone.
GDP DOES NOT NECESSARILY TRANSLATE INTO IMPROVED LIVING STANDARDS- ECONOMIST WARNS
Chief Economist and Partner at SPM Professionals, Dr. Paul Alaje, says nations must pay close attention to their Gross Domestic Product, GDP, but stresses that GDP growth does not necessarily translate to improved living standards.
Dr Alaje gave the warning on NTA’s programme “Good Morning Nigeria,” noting that Nigeria’s population is growing faster than its economy. Is Nigeria achieving real growth in per-capita terms?

Grassroots Momentum Builds as Amosun Mobilises 1,000 Coordinators for Senator YAYI in Abeokuta South
The growing grassroots support for the governorship aspiration of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola YAYI received another boost on Sunday as the Federal Commissioner representing Ogun State at the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Hon. Akeem Akintayo Amosun, convened a strategic re-sensitisation meeting with 1,000 coordinators of the Hon. Akeem Amosun Political Movement from the fifteen wards of Abeokuta South Local Government Area.
The meeting, held at AK City, Kemta Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, focused on strengthening the movement’s grassroots structure and enhancing coordination ahead of the 2027 general elections. The coordinators were charged with intensifying community engagement and expanding support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola YAYI.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Amosun urged the coordinators to sustain ward-level mobilisation through regular consultations and door-to-door engagement while promoting Senator YAYI’s track record of effective representation, impactful leadership, and commitment to the development of Ogun State.
He emphasised that the exercise was strictly a coordination and sensitisation meeting, noting that it was not an election campaign, as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had yet to commence the official campaign period. He stressed that the movement would continue to lawfully educate, organise, and prepare its members pending the commencement of campaigns.
Hon. Amosun reaffirmed his confidence in Senator YAYI’s capacity to provide purposeful leadership for Ogun State, describing him as a competent, experienced, and people-centred leader whose record in public service continues to inspire confidence across the state.
The meeting drew enthusiastic participation from coordinators across all fifteen wards of Abeokuta South, who pledged to deepen grassroots mobilisation and broaden support for Senator YAYI’s governorship aspiration, as well as the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
As part of efforts to sustain the momentum, the leadership of the Hon. Akeem Amosun Political Movement announced that an expanded re-sensitisation meeting involving a larger number of coordinators will be held in August to further consolidate support for Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola YAYI across Abeokuta South Local Government Area.
