Amber Czech was a 20 year old lesbian welder who was murdered by her cishet male coworker.
Every day another sister is killed.
When are we going to start protecting each other? When is femicide going to end?
A welder. A woman. A worker who deserved safety and dignity, free of discrimination.
Amber Czech was senselessly murdered by a male colleague on a jobsite in the US, a place where she should have been protected, respected and able to return home at the end of her workday.
Amber’s death is a profound tragedy.
It is also a harsh reminder that workplace safety is not just about equipment or procedures, it’s about culture, vigilance, and zero tolerance for violence.
Workplace safety is not up for negotiation.
LiUNA stands with Amber’s loved ones, her coworkers, and every woman in the skilled trades who deserves to feel safe the moment they step onto a site.
As an advocate for women in trades and against gender based violence, we have long advocated for strict measures and accountability in response to harassment across the industry. This must be a shared commitment by all.
No woman should have to ever be concerned about sexism or harassment in the workplace while trying to build a career and earn a living. No woman should ever be forced to fear their life or safety in the workplace, or anywhere for that matter.
Giving every worker a safe, respectful and fair workplace must be the goal of every trade.
We will honour Amber by demanding better; better protections, stronger accountability, and workplaces where violence has no place and no excuse.
Amber’s name will not be forgotten.
Her story must be a turning point.
Tools down. Hearts heavy.
In her memory and in our collective call to action.
