A can of Fanta sold in London contains 63 calories. In India, the same drink contains three times as much sugar. It also has artificial dye — requiring prominent health warnings in Europe — but in India, the colorant’s presence is noted merely in small print on the back of the can https://t.co/YCUjj5BR2J

"A stich in time saves nine" , this idiom goes well with the hike in power tarrif controversy. Let me explain the J&K power tariff hike in simple numbers so you can see through the noise.
Power corporations (KPDCL AND JPDCL) needed 10,275 crore this year to keep going. At old rates they would collect only 7,353 crore.
Gap = 2,923 crore.
If consumers had to fill the entire gap, it would have led to a 40% hike, defineltely that would have been called a "TARIFF SHOCK".
Government stepped in with rs 2,421 crore subsidy. Only 502 crore gap left for consumers to fill 6.83% hike. Government came to rescue and did well. This is the first increase in 4 years and still heavily subsidised.
BPL and small farmers untouched.
Those creating a “shock” and “betrayal” narrative simply ignored the maths but numbers don’t lie.
#JammuandKashmir | Reacting to row over power tariff hike, National Conference spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar says, "See, tariff hike is a day-to-day process, it is not new, hikes have happened in the past, last tariff hike happened in 2022, the parties who are opposing, when they were incumbent, PDP-BJP were together. When 13 pc hike happened in 2017, I want to ask whether that was not problematic? Today's hike is only 6.8 pc... These things happen... I know that people's condition is not good, knowing this, we will be trying to give relief...But doing politics on this is not good..."

#GKShorts | Khurshid Ganai, while defending the electricity tariff increase, says it would translate into a relatively small additional payment for individual households. A ₹1,000 bill, he said, would increase by around ₹70, while a ₹2,000 bill would rise by about ₹140 and a ₹4,000 bill by ₹280. “If a person gets a ₹1,000 bill, how much will he have to pay? With the 6.83% increase, it will be only around ₹1,070,” he said
I challenge @jkpdp , @BJP4JnK and Apni Party to show the same intensity in protesting against the BJP-led Union Government over today's ₹20 per kg hike in sugar prices.
These parties are out on the streets over every issue in Jammu & Kashmir but do they have the courage to take on the Modi government when it imposes such a steep burden on ordinary people?
And sugar is just one example. I haven't even begun to list the many essential commodities whose prices have skyrocketed over the past 12 years.
The real question is do these parties display the same passion and outrage when it comes to holding the Union Government accountable or does their activism end where @BJP4India begins?

J&K has the lowest tariffs in every category among the northern states (Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi). No other state in comparison has lower average energy charges (Rs./kWh).
The just announced power tariff hike by JERC is not the first and certainly not the last. This definitely is "lower" hike in comparison with previous years.

Party President Dr Farooq Abdullah and Vice President & Chief Minister @OmarAbdullah have expressed deep shock and outrage over the tragic death of a 14-year-old minor girl from Chhatroo, Kishtwar, who reportedly died while being referred for medical treatment to terminate a pregnancy.
Strongly condemning the incident in the harshest terms, they described the alleged sexual exploitation of a child as a heinous, horrifying and utterly unacceptable crime. The alleged involvement of a government school teacher, entrusted with the responsibility of educating and protecting children, makes the incident all the more reprehensible.
They called for a thorough, impartial and time-bound investigation into every aspect of the case. The guilty must face the strictest punishment under law.
They expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and stressed that the safety, dignity and protection of every child must remain non-negotiable.
