Indian authorities detained Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the anti-government “Cockroach” movement, along with two other movement leaders and thousands of protesters on Saturday.

Opposition politicians, journalists, student union leaders and lawyers were also among those detained.

The demonstrations were organized to demand the resignation of India’s Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, over allegations that voter-list revisions favored Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ruling party.

A protester was brutally beaten by some right wing goons in Connaught Place. The video shows a metal knuckle in the hand of one of these goons, He sustained multiple wounds on his back. The protester ran ahead to safety, where a few policemen were visible standing by the roadside, but none of them came to his rescue.
