The Assam Uniform Civil Code is not uniform at all. It completely exempts tribal communities from UCC’s coverage. Every community has the right to protect its culture under Article 29, but why is only the tribals’ autonomy being protected? This is the imposition of a law that no one wants. The constituent assembly did not envision a mandatory UCC.

In Islam, no one can exclude an heir from inheritance. No one can write a will to give their whole property to one son or deny their daughter inheritance. This UCC allows anyone to write a will and deny their daughters their fair share. This is far from a gender just law.

The cow should be granted the status of the ‘‘national animal’’. The majority of the people in the country not only consider the cow sacred, but also accord it the status of a mother. In such a situation, it is difficult to understand what political compulsion is preventing the government from declaring it the ‘‘national animal’’? The politics of hatred, mob lynching, the killing of innocent people in the name of the cow, and the campaign to malign Muslims must now come to an end. We would, in fact, welcome the decision if the cow were declared the ‘‘national animal’’ and a permanent solution to this issue were found, so that no human life is lost and religion is not exploited for political purposes.

What is astonishing is that in some states, beef is openly sold, yet there are neither protests against it nor incidents of mob lynching. However, in areas with a significant Muslim population, blood is shed in the name of the cow. This is not devotion; rather, it is a double standard and a political game. Strong propaganda is being carried out in favor of a Uniform Civil Code on the argument that if the nation is one, then the law should also be one. Yet, the laws regarding animal slaughter are not implemented uniformly across all states of the country. There are many states where beef is openly consumed and no ban exists there. A Union Minister himself admitted in an interview that he eats beef. What is even more surprising is that the Bharatiya Janata Party is in power in many of those states. Even more astonishing is the silence of those who incite mob lynching across the country in the name of the cow and even take human lives.

We only want that the cow be granted the status of the ‘‘national animal’’ so that this controversy may be brought to an end forever. Whatever law is enacted for this purpose should be implemented uniformly across all states of the country without discrimination. There should be no distinction in its application, because this alone is the true demand of justice.

गाय को ‘‘राष्ट्रीय पशु’’ का दर्जा दिया जाना चाहिए। देश की बहुसंख्यक आबादी गाय को केवल पवित्र ही नहीं मानती, बल्कि उसे मां का दर्जा भी देती है। ऐसे में यह समझ से परे है कि आखिर कौन-सी राजनीतिक मजबूरी है, जिसके कारण सरकार गाय को ‘‘राष्ट्रीय पशु’’ का दर्जा देने से बच रही है? गाय क�� नाम पर होने वाली मॉब लिंचिंग (भीड़ हिंसा), बेगुनाह इंसानों की हत्या, नफ़रत की राजनीति और मुसलमानों को बदनाम करने का यह खेल अब बंद होना चाहिए। हमें खुशी होगी यदि गाय को राष्ट्रीय पशु’’ घोषित कर इस समस्या का स्थायी समाधान निकाला जाए, ताकि न किसी इंसान की जान जाए और न धर्म के नाम पर राजनीति हो।

हैरानी की बात यह है कि कुछ राज्यों में खुलेआम गोमांस बेचा जाता है, लेकिन वहां इसके खिलाफ न कोई विरोध होता है और न ही किसी प्रकार की मॉब लिंचिंग देखने को मिलती है। जबकि जहां मुसलमानों की आबादी है, वहां गाय के नाम पर खून बहाया जाता है। यह श्रद्धा नहीं, बल्कि दोहरा मापदंड और राजनीतिक खेल है। समान नागरिक संहिता (यूसीसी) को लेकर यह प्रचार किया जा रहा है कि जब देश एक है, तो कानून भी एक होना चाहिए। लेकिन देश में पशु वध से संबंधित कानून सभी राज्यों में समान रूप से लागू नहीं हैं। देश में कई ऐसे राज्य हैं, जहां खुलेआम गोमांस खाया जाता है और वहां इस पर कोई प्रतिबंध नहीं है। यहां तक कि एक केंद्रीय मंत्री अपने एक इंटरव्यू में यह स्वीकार कर चुके हैं कि वे बीफ खाते हैं। सबसे आश्चर्य की बात यह है कि जिन राज्यों में भारतीय जनता पार्टी की सरकारें हैं, वहां भी यह सब हो रहा है। और इससे भी अधिक हैरानी की बात यह है कि जो लोग देशभर में गाय के नाम पर भीड़ हिंसा कर इंसानों की जान ले लेते हैं, वे भी इस मुद्दे पर पूरी तरह खामोश हैं।

हम तो यह चाहते हैं कि गाय को ‘‘राष्ट्रीय पशु’’ का दर्जा देकर इस विवाद को हमेशा के लिए समाप्त कर दिया जाए। इसके लिए जो भी कानून बनाया जाए, उसे देश के सभी राज्यों में बिना किसी भेदभाव के समान रूप से लागू किया जाए। इसमें किसी प्रकार का भेदभाव नहीं होना चाहिए, क्योंकि न्याय की मांग भी यही है।

Muslims do not offer regular five-time Namaz on roads. It usually happens only during Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. Twice a year and only for around 10 minutes, that too when the mosque is full. In recent years, many mosques have started arranging 2–3 Jamaats to ensure people don’t have to pray outside.
But the leaders know that this is the only way to divert the attention of their followers. They know, This is the only way to please their followers and make sure they don't question the govt.

Vande Mataram is an ode to a goddess. It cannot be treated on par with the national anthem. Jana Gana Mana celebrates India and its people, not a particular religion. Religion ≠ nation. The man who wrote Vande Mataram was sympathetic to the British Raj and despised Muslims. Netaji Bose, Gandhi, Nehru, and Tagore all rejected it.

The Preamble to the Constitution of India begins with “We, the People” — not “Bharat Maa”. It promises “liberty of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship”. The very first provision of the Constitution, Article 1, describes “India, that is Bharat” as a Union of States.

In the Constituent Assembly, some members wanted the Preamble to begin in the name of a goddess; they specifically invoked Vande Mataram. Others wanted it to begin “In the name of God” and to replace “its citizens” with “her citizens”. All these amendments were defeated.

India, that is Bharat, is its people. The nation is not a goddess; it does not run in the name of a god or goddess, and it does not belong to one god or goddess.
