International Day in Support of Victims of Torture

The Palestinian Center for Prisoner Advocacy stated that psychological and physical torture is systematically inflicted upon Palestinian hostages in Israeli prisons.

It noted that these violations include beatings, humiliation, forced exhaustion, starvation, solitary confinement, denial of medical treatment, and sexu@l ass@ult, alongside other forms of physical and psychological torture.

The Center stated that these practices are carried out as part of an organized policy, rather than isolated incidents, aimed at breaking the prisoners' will and stripping them of their dignity, in violation of the Convention against Torture and the Geneva Conventions.

Approximately 150 Palestinian prisoners have died in Israeli jails due to torture, related abuses, and medical negligence; about 90 of these deaths occurred within the last two years, coinciding with the genocide in Gaza.

Hostages' testimonies have documented practices involving sexu@l ass@ult and s@distic acts within the prisons.

Produced by Brad Pitt, it tells the story of Hind, a five-year-old Palestinian girl who was trapped in a car with the bodies of her family, being shot at by Israeli tanks. Her desperate call to emergency services was heard around the world.

The groundbreaking event was jointly hosted by representatives from both the left and the right of the political spectrum: the NSW Libertarian Party’s Hon. @JohnRuddick2 MLC and the Labor Party’s Hon. Stephen Lawrence MLC and attended by members of parliament, including both from the liberals. The event showed that humanity is not exclusive to any political party, and that opposing genocide is a bipartisan issue.

Alongside the parliamentarians, the event was co-organised and sponsored by the Tarek Yassin of the An Nahda Cultural Association. A moving speech was given by veteran journalist @MaryKostakidis, followed by speeches from Susan Wahhab of Palestinian Christians in Australia (PCiA) and Mohamad Amr of PANZMA.

The fact that this is happening in the halls of Australian parliament shows how much views have turned on Israel since the genocide in Gaza.

Every government who supplied weapons should have been called out years ago.
