Man Di€s While Trying to Rescue T%ddler Who Fell Into Well in Lagos.
A tr@gic incident occurred at Abule Egba, Lagos State, on Tuesday, October 20, after a man l%st his life while attempting to rescue a t%ddler who fell into a domestic well.
The incident happened at No. 4, Paul Street, inward Agbe Road. The t%ddler’s mother reportedly worked as a cleaner in the compound where the incident occurred.
According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), it received a distress call at 9:48 a.m. and immediately deployed its response team from the Igando Base.
A member of the Hausa community in the area reportedly entered the well in a courageous attempt to rescue the ch!ld but became trapped and was later recovered d€@d.
LASEMA, working alongside the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps and the Nigeria Police Force, launched a coordinated rescue operation. However, the depth of the well, high water level and thick mud at the bottom made the operation difficult.
The deceased man’s rem@ins were subsequently handed over to his relatives and members of the Hausa community for burial in line with their customs.
Efforts to recover the t%ddler also proved unsuccessful. Dewatering operations encountered challenges, prompting the deployment of a specialist local diver for a final search.
According to LASEMA, the diver determined that the t%ddler’s body had svnk deep into the mud and could not be retrieved. Only one shoe belonging to the chlld was recovered.
Following an expert assessment and consultations with the family and community leaders, LASEMA announced the conclusion of the operation, with all emergency responders returning to their base.
The agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, expressed condolences to the bereaved families and the Hausa community, while commending the deceased man for r!sking his life in an attempt to save the t%ddler.

Flag-offs are on paper, but the reality on the mud is different! 📉
Just a reminder! When will the Boki East-West road reach the interior communities that need it most?
While we acknowledge the state government's official flag-off for the 17km Boki East-West Road project since January 2026, the harsh truth on the ground for many interior communities and farmers in Boki Local Government Area, Cross River State still looks like this.
For everyday commuters, farm workers, and traders, moving basic goods remains an uphill battle against impassable, muddy paths.
Flag-offs are a welcome first step, but what the people truly need right now is accelerated, widespread execution that leaves no remote village behind.
Our rural areas are the food baskets of the state, they deserve roads that make life easier, safer, and livable!
